  2. yeah, i took the time to read up on it and was surprised to learn that the Soviet Union used it with devestating results in Afghanistan. It could hit hilltops because of its ability to elevate its barrels to extreme angles and was brutal against the rebels.

    1. The soviets modified some of them by removing Radar equipment and the associated fire control system and packing in extra ammunition. I'm going to try and get a printing company to make an A3 or A2 size for me. Good find, cheers.

  3. I love Russian weapons. The Soviets had a small economy and the Russian Federation started off broke after the collapse. Their arms makers were always in fear of being thrown in a gulag, fired, or shot. These conditions always made it so that the Russians could never afford to be stupid with developing their armed forces. All of their equipment maximizes bang for the buck and is roughly comparable to ours while being much cheaper. It's a real good thing that America's Cold War leaders put a stronger emphasis on training and skill.

    1. Assuming of course that the Russian Poor Bloody Infantry was happy to take the appalling losses plans like SDTTRR called for, and that Polish, Ukraine, and Uzbek conscripts didnt decide to murder their Russian handlers and bugger off home.

One of the advantages of a defensive war is fresh troops arrive at the front fresh and with untarnished morale
One of the disadvantages of an attacking war is fresh troops arrive at the front by climbing over the corpses of those who "won" yesterdays battle.

SDTTRR would have seen an advance of 300km.
I cant imagine what it would be like, driving those 300km to the front, seeing three dead soviet tanks for every dead NATO tank.

To be fair, I'm glad you avoided slaughtering each other too, but I question the ability of an army built on NCO brutality to hold together under pressure.

The ZSU has a fantastic amount of potential for anti infantry and urban warfare
