TERREX Marine Personnel Carrier

Thanks Daniel!

  1. This is bad, it shows that SAIC is looking for customers other than the USMC to sell to, which they would not be doing if they thought that the MPC program would be brought to completion. Wonder who will end up with the vehicles. Brazil? Chile?

    2. Yeah, students nowadays are getting so rowdy. :)

"Ok kids, now line up for your... re-education..."

  2. It appears to be an adequate vehicle if the propellers don't get shot or knocked off.

    1. Seems deeper in the water than AAV-7, as slow churning through it, and with armor likely applicable to AAV-7.

I'd just look at the armor and save burning money on yet another redo of the romance of coming in in that vehicle from OTH-50 perhaps ??

From OTH-100 she'll run on fumes as the clambers ashore.

Both scenarios on Autopilot of course - since all crew and personnel will be beyond motion-sick from 8-16 hrs of 'moving dungeon' -syndrome...

    2. Wasn't the AAV aluminum hulled? Going to steel/ceramic would be an improvement would it not? What I find interesting is that most of the 8X8 submissions have nearly double the operational range of the AAV. IIRC, AAV tactics involve landing on shore, disembarking and acting as close shore fire support. With better fuel capacity or fuel usage, MPCs might actually be able to push in further than the beach and allow for more aggressive maneuvering.

But this is all secondary to the biggest enemy of all armoured vehicles. Budget cuts.

Want to kill a tank, use a JDAM. Want to kill an army of tanks? Use Sequestration.

      No money, no tank.

  3. I'm not sure... but boys from Patria made an ultimate AFV ? Most of those "new" designs looks almost like clone of it.

    1. Dude... it's like saying someone patented fire. All AFVs are so similar that there isn't much of a difference in all of them, and saying that Patria "invented" it is laughable. You could even make a case that this is simply an evolution of the old combat cars from WWI or half-tracks or even the old M-113.

Patria just had a better marketing department, that is all.

Yes they are very similar, I just think that Patria start this trend. And this is another prototype that we can see almost the same forward lights. Company that produce them, well they have a awesome makreting department.

    3. .....

I didn't know Patria produced vehicles in 1970. I can't even tell who had the original design, but 8x8s have been around a long, long time. The easiest to check up case would be the MOWAG Piranha which became the LAVIII which then became the Stryker. So to say Patria started the trend is very short sighted. The Piranha was produced since 1970.

Besides, the Patria AMV is actually the 2nd youngest. Only the SuperAV is younger than it.
