    1. yeah. they arrived in a panel van, wore soft hats, went to work in police uniforms and didn't hide there faces.

today they're jumping out of MRAPs that the DoD is handing out like candy (i've been monitoring the announcements nationwide and its insane. every city, town, county and everything in between is getting them).

so yeah. i'm sticking to my guns. police have become militarized.

    2. I have seen the MRAP distribution as well and it is no surprise to me. I remember the talk of a civilian national security force:

  3. They cannot wear armor all the time nor remain anonymous forever, they have families who I'm sure they love and wish to be safe.
In the end what comes around goes around and the ones on top pounding the little guy on the bottom will get their day in the same position.
Make enough people angry, humble enough dad's and Mom's in front of kids, kill enough citizens unarmed in cars carrying babies or beating citizens while "undercover" in a motorcycle gang and the backlash will occur.
They have to exit their tanks and bunkers to get donuts and that's when the hermit crab has no shell for protection.
There is a great deal of hate and disgust with these tactics push hard enough and the balloon goes up.
I wish it wasn't so but hell, this ain't Mayberry anymore.

    1. well you hit on something that i've been paying attention to and making note of.

society is really under pressure. no one trusts the government yet we have the nonsense in DC. the healthcare plan is a joke and will cost more people more money for worse care. additionally they have the sorriest security on the thing (according to the experts) that many have ever seen.

i mean seriously. how can you take the nation from fights over abortion, gay rights, health care, syria, afghanistan, health care etc...while the nation is in the midst of a modern day great depression until people say enough and just wig out.

quite honestly i'm surprised we haven't seen attacks on public officials yet. the way things are i really thought someone would have gone after one of those people by now.

    2. hmm, a modern day great depression is very hyperbolic.

The greek, Spanish, French, Italians, Portuguese, and Irish states are still around even when their economies are shittier than ours.

The VAST majority of Americans don't want to disrupt their lives with the possibility of getting gunned down in an armed revolt.

No First World nation citizen does, our lives are too cushy.

Plus, the Healthcare law is here to stay until 2016. All it does is forces you ro buy insurance and makes healthy people pay for the sick.

    3. Donuts are not my thing, personally I'm a scone guy.

I completely agree that law enforcement has become to militarized, but there are reasons for it - not necessarily good reasons. Here on the left coast major city departments and sheriff's offices do all entries, not just high risk. Everyone on the team is geared up and thinks of themselves as "operators". Many of these guys were never in the service so it gives them the chance to "play guns or war". PD and S.O. managers are using the specialized teams to mitigate risk and liability because out here the public whines about everything, but not every search/arrest operation needs to be an assault on the Davidian Compound. That's where I have a problem with how things are being done. Sometimes walking up and just knocking on the door and advising the occupants that you have a warrant gets you much further than "keying" the door, scaring the shit out of the kids and pissing off the parents. Pissed off people tend to not want to cooperate. Or waiting until the dude leaves the house and stopping him down the road, letting him know you have a warrant and you would appreciate his cooperation. I can't tell ya how many times I've done this and had the suspect tell me thanks for not blowin up his door and scaring his family. Obviously, this tactic is used after I've done a threat assessment and it's applicable. I was on a search warrant recently that involved both feds and local po po and EVERYONE had an AR except for me. I was like WTF, am I missing something? Frickin retarded. Sure, I have an AR and use it when appropriate - outdoor grow operations come to mind. A pistol and 870 12 gauge are my preference for enforcement operations. I don't wear all that gouchi gear either - jeans, boots, vest, handcuffs, tourniquet, radio, couple of extra mags and a light. Oh, and my tactical ink pen.

What bothers me the most about what I'm seeing and personally have experienced in law enforcement is the way cops talk to people - they are just rude. Have I been rude before - yep, but I tend to be a sir and mam type until a person becomes verbally abusive and then I? tell em to shut-up. I believe this lord/servant attitude starts at the academies - the whole us versus them mentality. I believe it should be mandatory at all academies that recruits receive government and civics courses. I have noticed a difference in S.O. deputy behavior and police departments - might have something to with the Sheriff being an elected position - ding, ding we have a winner.

    1. yeah, but I think you'll find that army and marine gear was pretty much the same as the SWAT as depicted in those videos except green. Police have a long history of copying and re-purposing military techniques and hardware. Its just that modern military techniques and hardware appear much more threatening than in the past.

  5. I will never forget the F.B.I. Agent who was teaching a class at Camp Pendleton, CA. for a Pre-Service Law Enforcement Training school. He told us that everyone of us would when we graduated be inflicted to a point (some worse than others) with what he termed the "WYATT EARP SYNDROME" something that almost all rookies get to some degree. He said a good TO would 'Snap your out of it quickly'.....True! But sadly some LEO's NEVER let go of the "Wyatt Earp Syndrome", It seems like it is getting worse the last 5 years, Many of these Cops (smaller town/City's especially are at the top) many of them I have found act like RAMBO/DIRTY HARRY Is it what they are being taught in CLEET,. Pre-Service, ........?

    1. but how much of this is actual change and how much is it just more exposure via modern day media and information technology. Is is actually similar to violent crime which many people believe is up when in fact the US has the near the lowest levels of violent crime in its history and significantly lower than so called safe periods like the 1950s?

Exposure creates perception, perception creates belief, but neither creates reality.
