They are the same series. Macross and Robotech are the same universe. Robotech is the original cartoon (which even by today's standards has a pretty good story line and is pretty well written). Robotech was made in America and based off a few old Japanese anime series, but it was made at a time when Americans did not like anime. The Japanese loved anime and loved Robotech so they took it and created the Macross series. I love both!
The VF-0 is meant to look like the Super Hornet while the VF-1 is meant to look like the Tomcat. In fact, Skull Squadron's leader Roy Focker has his VF-1 Valkyrie painted in the color scheme of the CAG bird from the US Navy fighter squadron VFA-103 "Jolly Rogers."
VF-0 Phoenix http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VF-0_Phoenix and this Macross not shit-tech
VF-0 Phoenix variable fighter was an advanced prototype for the VF-1 Valkyrie which served as a flight test unit and later in 2008 as a front-line fighter, The VF-1 was created by Japanese mecha designer Shoji Kawamori (with contributions by his Studio Nue partner Kazutaka Miyatake) in 1980-1982 to be the centerpiece mecha design of the anime series The Super Dimension Fortress Macross (1982–1983). The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle and Grumman F-14 Tomcat with its variable-sweep wing design, served as the main design inspiration of the VF-1. The name "Valkyrie" is a tribute to the real world XB-70 Valkyrie, an experimental supersonic strategic bomber developed in the United States in the 1960s.
Reminds me of that Cartoon called Robotech
