NOTE: Looks like LM and Plasan have been working on that armor hard. Now I see why they're pushing the MRAP like protection angle so hard. Another thing. I wanted to see a RWS on the MPC, but the modeling with the legacy AAV turret is looking smarter and smarter...especially considering the budget crunch. It'll need thermals and blue force but all and all...smart.

Havoc 8x8: Uncompromised Capability for the Marines

I noticed that they are also showing the up-armored mode, even in the water.
ReplyDeleteHmmm... one thing I don't get it, Havoc is just an modified Patria AMV without heavy firepower turret like Polish Wolverine. But it's max weight of Havoc is 27 tons and Wolverine max weight is 26 tons, I know that he can swim with max load of 22.5 tons. Then how the hell they put on water more heavy vehicle ?
ReplyDeleteThey only show that "light" version of Havoc in water, maybe those additional panels are not armor but some kind of displacement palettes ?
The Polish AMV, the South African AMV, and the Havoc can all swim.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how much weight the AMV's swim system can bear?
Yow can clearly see that the up-armor package packs considerable volume which is mostly air. so don't se a problem with buoyancy as extra weight is made up with extra volume. Things might be different it the Havoc had a wolverine like turret.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that side packages are not armor at all. They show two models, one looks like classic Patria with AAV turret ( extra weight but not that much ) and the one with MG, but only second one posses those packages and ride in to the water. Polish Wolverine is push to the limit of max 22.5 tons and it's still can swim, barely.
DeleteBut now, after Afganistan Wolverine is updated with additional armor, IED countermeasures, electronics ect. and become just to heavy to swim. And this is unacceptable for Polish Army. In Wolverine II/Wolf prototype on MSPO 2013 they show and new "Improvement of displacement vehicles system" from WZINZ Dęblin.

Maybe on Havoc they use similar system ?
im sure they added pontoons under the uparmor...something that not only adds buoyancy, but gives extra space and standoff.
ReplyDeleteas for that turret, it will have a thermal standard if they take the aav turret but that looks like the upgraded version ive been hearing about with the stabilized wpns, and upgraded sighting system. Ive never been against the aav's wpns always thought the UGWS was a great turret if they were to add in the needed stabilization and upgraded sights.
i would like to know if there is a plan to ad the MK154 kid and c2 var of the vehicles???
Turret? According to the video it is more a sail.
DeleteI can imagine the payload on that vehicle: just the driver and a few pints of fuel.
With complete payload it'll be a Spanisch submarine: to heavy to resurface.
