Sad news, I hadn't read any his new stuff since Bear and Dragon but I remember not being able to put down his earlier books. Its fair to say that the riveting quality of his stories contributed greatly to me developing my love of reading back in middle school. Heh, my "jerk" teacher probably still has my copy of "Cardinal Of the Kremlin". Hey remember that part of Hunt For Red October when they send the A-10s against the Red Fleet? That was awesome!
RIP Mr. Clancy His books were my staple, along with most of my barracks during my tour with USMC. Great reading, and I did pass it on to my son. Along with playing the shit out of Rainbow 6 together
I wonder if any of the services will name a building or a street after him. I would think it would befit a person of his stature. He may not be a politician. He may not have commanded more than his writing skills. But he was someone.
Yes, "USS Tom L. Clancy" would fit well. But to what vessel? Heck, I don't think Mr. Clancy would appreciate if the Navy names a tugboat (or a sub tender) after him.
In my humble opinion, "USS Tom L. Clancy" on an SSN or SSBN would be an acknowledgement by Navy of a man of his stature.
