Another day and local law enforcement gets another MRAP.
For some reason, the communities involved are simply nodding and accepting these purchases without debate. But you don't buy a tool if you don't intend on using it and these law enforcement depts are getting wrecking balls that WILL be used in the community...regardless of whether or not its appropriate.
Read the story here.
Police have had similar vehicles for years. My local Sheriff's Dept has an M113 that they have had at least 10 years, and an unarmored HMMV they use for search and rescue. Detroit PD has had an armored car for over 20 years. UASI Homeland Security grants have been paying for new ones for the last 10 years, at least the MRAPs are already paid for and surplus.
ReplyDeleteWhile you and I find it ridiculous that every podunk department is getting one, these things will sit on the lot and the only time you will see them will be:
1. Annual open house or PR events
2. Barricaded gunman events
that's spot on. these things are showing up in EVERY TOWN across America. additionally they're not being used to raid crack houses. they're being used against mom and pop in the burbs.
Deletethis is a disease and no one is admitting that they're infected.
not really.
DeleteThey are status symbols, kinda like a helicopter but not nearly as useful.
As john said, they will sit in a garage until open house day and maybe come out during a barricaded gunman even or something like that. Even then, it will be parked a block or 2 away to block a street or something and to look god for the cameras. An MRAP is essentially a tall armored truck.
Everyone is forgetting the most important word here: FREE
DeleteIf they had to pay for these no one would have them. Ok maybe Los Angeles, but most of the communities would not. Oklahoma County got an old APC, it sits in the lot, uses to much fuel. I saw it used for high water rescues once. But that is about it.
For some reason, MRAPS are a mistake to law enforcement, and I think they are going to be shocked when some Drug King pin one day get's an RPG or IED.
ReplyDelete"If there is a situation involving an active shooter, the MRAP would be deployed to the scene, Wiley said.
ReplyDeleteBesides protecting officers from bullets, the vehicle could be placed between the shooter and potential victims to keep them safe.
The MRAP also could be a valuable resource during natural disasters, such as floods and blizzards."
yeah, blizzard. Armored vehicle for blizzards.
And forget the active shooter scenario, by the time it gets to the scene 45 minutes later, the suspects will have killed so many as to make the issue moot and/or will have departed for the next dimension.
Molotov for the kill. CM.
ReplyDeletehomemade EFP!
Deletethis is the israeli golan, dhs has 2600 being deployed / pre-positioned.
ReplyDeletethe others are the lenco bearcat , a bargain at 240,000. for when you want to shut the neighborhood down for cozy bunny time/ shelter in place.
As new weapons are developed by the military industrial complex, there has to be environments created to use them, otherwise it's a futile exercise in r & d ,production, and profits. So war is a result of weapons manufacturing and gives us a lens to to look through as to what the outcome of local law enforcement agencies having military-grade, tactical weapons and armored vehicles.
ReplyDeleteGung ho law enforcement personnel carefully selected for their psychological profile are easily persuaded to go along with false flag operations where they would be provided with the opportunity to use these implements.
Just the presence of these in the town hall parking like is an instigator to violence.
Simply put, these things are ITCHING FOR USE.
