Improvised Armored Fighting Vehicles (IAFV) via Borderland Beat.

F-550 armored up with protected upper and side firing ports.

Armored up FJ Cruiser with adhoc  upper firing position.
Read about this stuff here.

Sooner or later we're going to see criminals on this side of the border armor up a vehicle to commit a crime.  I'm sure its already being seen in the border communities but since the worst of the violent crime is being committed in the Latino community against Latinos then we ignore it.

The problem with that approach is that it will spread.  And when it hits middle America there is gonna be hell to pay.

The good news?

The gun debate will become a moot point.  So will the militarization of police.

By necessity they'll need to start arming up with AT-4's and LAW rockets.  Quite honestly they'll probably need to allocate a couple to at least each Watch Commander so that if his boys are faced with these types of vehicles then someone has the capability to take them out.

But we have the power now.  We have got to lock down the border before its too late.  I can handle a MadMax or Wild West type situation but freaking Improvised Armored Fighting Vehicles (IAFV)?  Thats taking it to a new point.  How do you defeat these vehicles as an armed and ready citizen?

  1. That monster would be a nightmare for every cop on the world. How to stop it ?! In US you can call a National Guard for help in that situations ? or full military ?

    1. the closest thing i can come up with as an example is when some idiot stole a Tank in San Diego and went on a rampage. a former Marine Tanker that was a San Diego LEO knew how the thing worked and got onto the vehicle and shot the guy thru the TC hatch when he immobilized himself on some type of roadwork.

the only other incident that might apply is when some idiot took a bulldozer (almost a D9 type) and started wrecking houses in a town i forget the name of. i don't know how they stopped him but it was a tough thing and there are always millions of dollars worth of damage.

if someone wants to kill we have tons of ways to get the job done. i just never considered the fact that we would have to deal with this potential threat. IEDs yes. IAFVs? no.

  2. I will bet that vehicle is covered with mild steel plates. Easily defeated with .308 or 30-06. When I was in, we still used the FAL, which with steel cored ammo could defeat the side armour of a M113.

  3. Take the bullet out of the casing and turn it round so the flat arse is facing out and then fix it back in the casing and this will turn it into semi accurate armour piercing round. It's the same technique the Germans used in WW1.

I'm basing the effectiveness of this on the picture as the armour looks about the same as the tanks in WW1. The size of round and charge/grain you are using should probably be taken into consideration as well.

  4. Ole school Moltoff would do it. Or just shoot out the tires.

Looks like a standard Semi to me, F-550 I think is to small this beast has two axles and duly wheels, I have never seen a 550 with two axles some old 650-750maybe. I say standard semi just because they are more common. Either way a Moltoff on the hood/windshield/grill to blind the driver and drip into the engine compartment melting all the rubber hoses and wires. Or one in the wheel hubs catching the tires on fire. At range shoot the tires those are spec seal wheels not lock lock wheels, meaning no run-flats and so they will derim (any) or spin in the tire (drive axle). A Moltoff in the rear wheel compartments or the front would also probably disable it. Lots of rubber hose around those areas that if ruptured/burnt the brakes will lock up, and in the front once those tires light it will melt the engine internals even if they are sealed them off.

Bottom line it would be a nut. God help us if they start handing out LAWS to swat. These guys already drive their armored trucks through the walls or sometimes rip half a wall out pulling the window bars off old houses to bust some teenagers and dope heads with a cookie.

  5. The guy with the D9 had taken steel plates and put concrete between 2 sheets, nothing the cops had was getting thru. Ive seen storys of cartel vehicles that had foam filled or silicone filled tyres also.
