Africa. Are we seeing a coordinated Islamic Terrorist campaign?

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- With dozens reported dead Thursday in clashes in the capital of the Central African Republic, the U.N. Security Council authorized the deployment of more French and African peacekeepers to contain the spiraling violence.

The unanimous French-sponsored Security Council resolution authorized additional peacekeepers mandated to use force to protect civilians. African forces in the Central African Republic are expected to increase from around 2,500 at present to 3,600 by year's end; the French force is expected to expand from 600 to about 1,200.

The crisis in the Central African Republic has worsened sharply in recent months, with sectarian attacks between rival Christian and Muslim groups, and warnings the country could descend into sectarian warfare or genocide.

Fighting between rival militias broke out in the capital, Bangui, early Thursday, according to news agency reports, as the shock waves of a rebel coup in March continue to reverberate. Witnesses and aid workers counted at least 98 dead, the Associated Press reported, adding that an AP reporter counted 48 bodies in a mosque. There were other reports of bodies lying around the city.
First Mali.  Then Nigeria...twice.  Now CAR.

Africa appears to be under coordinated attack by Islamic Terrorist.

Things are going from bad to worse on that continent.  The next country to watch will be S. Africa.  If terrorist are there.  If terrorist can plunge that country into anarchy, then the entire continent will become a terrorist playground.  I said it once and was called a drama queen.

Africa is burning and SOCOM, State, Defense, CIA and other US departments appear helpless to even slow it down, much less stop it.

UPDATE!  Spoke too soon.  Looks like US forces could be headed to another war ... this time in Africa.  If you thought the Middle East was bad, wait till you see the mess there.  We will continue to be bled dry while our enemies watch, strengthen and plot.

  1. Your thoughts on what may happen during Mandela's funeral? You know there will be a good amount of world leaders there to show themselves off.

  3. You are being a dramaqueen. I explained why and you promptly deleted it. You're more into media'esque hysteria & general contrarianism. What a silly little echo chamber.

  4. Africa is a mess because they slapped a veneer of modern democracy over ancient tribalism. They have almost managed to make it up to feudalism but the West keeps insisting they skip feudalism and jump straight into Jeffersonian democracy.

You really want to helpl Africa? Get the military out entirely. USAID and NGOs can stay and try a slow and steady approach of building a modern society. Teach the police that it is a bad thing to demand bribes from a fruit vendor to allow him to sell fruit. Teach the people that voting for Robert Mugabe just because he came from your tribe is a bad thing.

Until that happens sending in SOF and SPMAGTF Africa to train the military will never accomplish anything.

    1. extremely well said but the military has been transformed into State, USAID, and NGOs in a one stop shop for desperate presidents. another thing you're spot on is that Africa is ruled by tribalism. the idea of a working democracy is a fools errand. we have to get to a point where we let civilizations develop at their own pace and deal with them as they are, not as we want them to be.

    2. Unfortunately Africa has no choice centuries of colonialism followed by cold war makes for bad fundations. Plus they are cursed by any mineral wealth they have .
Now add China in search of resources to the game and you have a huge potential for wars.

    3. Yes typical FFL 'talent' pool is now working the PMCs instead of the Legion ,but they are still 'the' powerhouse in African bush.

    4. Which is why France is known to sending the French Foreign Legion in before the regular French Military. Who else would they sacrifice a few foreigners who take up arms for France.

  6. Its not so much terrorism, as it is expansionism, occupation and subjugation.
    Or even simple reconquest.
There was a large well developed Islamic empire / collection of kingdoms that ruled much of Africa before Europeans toppled them and took over.

  7. Its a great opportunity to implement drone campaing at the large scale. While afghani operations constantly in the limelight, Pakistan(Waziristan) war against islamists lacking such intense coverage, but there is much interesting is going on.

We can regularly read about successful drone attacks, and UN(islamists controlled) attempts to ban usage of drones against poor murderous islamists, proving that tactic is very effective.

How it works? CIA operatives getting information about targets and drones wasting them. In such scenario all you need is money -- to buy information from one islamic clan against another islamic clan, and well protected airbase(carrier) -- to watch area and perform drone strikes literally everywhere. No need to go in guns blazing, no need to control territory, no large ground forces, no losses.

Deploying unmanned combat vehicles and using islamist clans blood feudes to buy targets coordinates for drones strikes is perfect tactic against large islamist numbers and their IED tactic, why don't refine it futher in Africa?
