Two things.
First. Did you hear how quiet that thing is? Use that engine with rubber tracks and you have 40-60 tons of vehicle that's quieter than most cars on the road.
Second. You gotta love BAE. They're still plugging away even though all seems lost with regard to the GCV. Maybe they can offer it on the AAV upgrade, AMPV and other vehicles.
This is a movie about a drive train test. So the sound you hear is not natural. On engine test stands a lot of sound absorbing materials are used. E.g. engine exhaust is conducted directly into additional mufflers. Still the sound is far to quite for any engine testing.
ReplyDeleteIt is 21.4 kW/t for Puma IFV at highest protection level and 29.2 kW/t with standard protection (engine was pimped from 800 kW to 920 kW for production). An electric drive does have several advantages e.g. better acceleration and fuel economic but finally 20 t more is a lot of weight.
Hint: German Puma IFV 6 dismounts but 8 to 9 dismounts are possible.
