The Royal Air Force is screwed.

Thanks for the article Tim!

via the Daily Mail
Three female RAF recruits have each been awarded £100,000 by the Ministry of Defence after suffering injuries caused by marching in step with their male colleagues.
The women claimed that parading alongside taller male recruits caused them to over-stride, a repetitive motion which, when repeated over several weeks, led them to develop spinal and pelvic injuries.

Now, after a five-year bitter legal battle, which saw the MoD accuse the women of exaggerating their symptoms, they have been awarded more compensation than soldiers who suffered serious gunshot wounds in Afghanistan.
Read it all here.

All I have to say is wow.  Once women start getting injured in Fleet Marine Force Infantry Units we're going to be seeing this and worse on our side of the Atlantic.

I'd laugh at the RAF but I fear they're just the canary in the coal mine.

  1. ... hmmm

This is way above wow level, this something in Über-wow class. This is a precedes, more woman's with some delusion sickens will receive cash from just... walking, shiiittttt this is material for joke and I almost don't want to believe this shit was real. When Brits pay 100k, Yanks will pay million dollars... next position in military budget, compensation for broken nails.

  2. wow......

    That is monumentally stupid.

The RAF should have treated them and discharged them, as they obviously cannot perform their duties.

  3. The assault was well under way when from the assault section came the cry!

  4. Actually it's the British Armies way of Marching that did it, The UK needs to change it's marching style to something more "feminine" say like in Monty Python fashion.

  5. All three services have slightly different drill. The Army likes to stamp end of sequence of movements. The RN and RAF don't stap. The Army's stamping actually is thought to be a source of knee ligament failure in some soldiers (not the ones who are in for a three year fun ride but those in for the long haul.)

    ARRSE covered this here,

Modern UK services. Ask any office at or above the rank captain (Army / RM) or Lt Cmdr RN and they will wax lyrical about how wonderful the gals are and how much they bring to the mix. You have to remember most men serving today no nothing other than women at the front.

    1. We had the same injuries at Parris Island during basic but instead of the knee (which is an Infantry Marines common malady) it was stress fractures of the foot due to the exaggerated marching stomp during the march it self.
I was being sarcastic when I really do enjoy the British marching arms swinging and the stride.

  6. While I was in the service our WM's (BAM's) were segregated at HQMC base CLNC in their own barracks and had two armed guards carrying Ithica M-37 or the old Winchester 97 24/7/365 mostly confined to barracks while off duty. Mostly that is except for the ones who danced the Go Go at CT's place downtown.
