This is why average citizens no longer trust police.

via NYTimes.
An unarmed, emotionally disturbed man shot at by the police as he was lurching around traffic near Times Square in September has been charged with assault, on the theory that he was responsible for bullet wounds suffered by two bystanders, according to an indictment unsealed in State Supreme Court in Manhattan on Wednesday.
The man, Glenn Broadnax, 35, of Brooklyn, created a disturbance on Sept. 14, wading into traffic at 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue and throwing himself into the path of oncoming cars.
A curious crowd grew. Police officers arrived and tried to corral Mr. Broadnax, a 250-pound man. When he reached into his pants pocket, two officers, who, the police said, thought he was pulling a gun, opened fire, missing Mr. Broadnax, but hitting two nearby women. Finally, a police sergeant knocked Mr. Broadnax down with a Taser.
The shootings once again raised questions about the police use of firearms in crowded areas and drew comparisons to a shooting a year ago, when officers struck nine bystanders in front of the Empire State Building when they killed an armed murder suspect.
Initially Mr. Broadnax was arrested on misdemeanor charges of menacing, drug possession and resisting arrest. But the Manhattan district attorney’s office persuaded a grand jury to charge Mr. Broadnax with assault, a felony carrying a maximum sentence of 25 years. Specifically, the nine-count indictment unsealed on Wednesday said Mr. Broadnax “recklessly engaged in conduct which created a grave risk of death.”
A few things.

Grand Juries are a joke.  They will indict anyone that is brought before them.  I don't know why we even bother anymore.

Next.  District Attorney's are a joke.  Well, at least some of them.  If you have a clown in the DA's office that is looking for a promotion or higher office then you can expect a parking ticket to turn into a crime against humanity.

Last.  NY police should be disarmed.  Believe it or not if what I'm reading is true then I don't blame them for the shooting.  A furtive movement --- especially to one's pockets is just an indication of a desire to commit suicide by cop.  So the shooting is justified.  I BLAME THEM 100 percent for hitting bystanders.  A civilian would be charged for those hit, even if the original target was justified.

This is why people don't trust police.

  1. The more a population is politically separated from the traditional American culture of guns, manliness, military service, patriotism, Christian values, and personal responsibility...the more mystical and terrifying a firearm in anyone's posession is to that population of leftist-voting sheeple.

Plus, NYPD can't hit the broad side of barn with a .50 cal unless a bunch of unarmed innocents are inside of it.

    1. you're right. but what gets me is this. why would you want to live in a large population center. the dangers are many, the advantages few and the benefits becoming more scarce by the day.

if people lived by "country" standards in the big cities then you'd see cities that weren't swamped in debt but safer places.

  2. I don't see how they are going to get a conviction, but most people want to be on the police side. They may not like them all the time, but you want to think they are doing the right thing. New York sucks because you back drop is either a building with Lord knows how many people in it and sidewalks full of people walking around.

The only way to make this right is to not prosecute everyday citizens if they accidentally injury an innocent person. Bad part is I can see that happening where I am from, but New York would hang their butt and never look back. On the other end of it though you have this where you know the officer was to damn worried about public opinion or what his command would think and he put himself and his rookie in danger.

  3. What are the rules of engagement the Army and Marines in Afghanistan use? Would they have shot a man for reaching in his pocket?

  4. I recall the video of the man sitting unarmed in a doorway, the Police sent in a K-9 then sprayed the doorway with bullets killing the man and the K-9 dog, you could hear the dog handler shouting at them to not kill his dog.
If you get stopped even if you are not guilty of any crime keep your hands in sight because these Police are all like L'il Bill in that Eastwood movie Unforgiven.
They will kill you several times.
