Please identify the device on this police car!

Alright guys, forget the chick with the out of control boobies ( I mean seriously...what's going on there?) what has my attention is the device on the squad car behind her.

What is that black thing just behind the light bar?

UPDATE!  Ok, Tommo made me play my hand with the question he asked.  It really looks like a FLIR device to me. The police can literally (depending on how its constructed) see through some houses and into certain buildings depending on their design. Oh and I found out the chick in the pic is Wendy Fior.

totally out of control....

good order is restored...and airbrushed.

  1. It could either be a Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) we have some similar things like that box in the UK but are normally on the front, inside the cab. Or its a shotspotter system. I know several US police forces were looking at them

    1. our sheriff's dept has plate readers but they're inside the car. i thought about gunfire detector but i've never seen one that big and bulky --- what has me curious as hell is that it really reminds me of a FLIR device from a Venom or Viper (UH-1Y or AH-1Z).

    2. The mobile plate readers I've seen are the ones mounted on both sides of the trunk or roof and pointed outwards and downwards; never seen one inside the car.

  3. I think I found it. It looks like this vehicle mounted thermal camera. Even has the same orange-white letters on the side.

    1. and i think we have a winner. good job Mike. i looked at the FLIR makers sites and didn't see anything that matched. seems like they've all moved on to marketing hand held devices to law enforcement.

this is rather...well it would have been shocking 5 years ago. now? just more proof. privacy is a distant dream. unless your house is constructed with lots of hot spots, the police can see you and your wife or girlfriend getting busy late at night.

thermal imaged porn. ain't it grand.

    2. almost all police helicopters have thermal. it would only see you and your girl if your in the backyard going at it as they fly over. oh and they have to have it on at the time.

  4. ....of course these 'enhancements' may distort the actual data into misleading assessment-patterns on your end. And then what ? May make for poor tactics...

Conclusion: Sometimes mechanical additions under excessive pressure along with mismatched chemistry may result in unexpected/unreliable outcomes better to be avoided in favor of well-proven naturally-evolved device-geometries with least potential for malfunction under combat-demands.

Then again, for some it will be impossible to not recite the old literary gem: " Thar she.... !

  5. Google "Kyllo v. United States". If it is a thermal imaging device and the police have to obtain a warrant before using

    1. Whether or not police actually do go through the proper steps.... That's another story...

    2. This was because the officer testifying misstated how the technology worked. All in the words used. Though you can still use it for investigative purposes you can not use the evidence found by thermal in court. How far you have to go in the probable cause to use thermal you can just run a warrant. its sad since the use of thermal could rule out someone thought to have a grow in their house.

    1. Google it yourself. they detect heat. if you're in an older structure or a hut (in an overseas scenario) if the walls are of a certain construction and they don't have alot of wiring in the walls then you're damn right they can. additionally alot of houses have these huge glass doors and that is a gateway into your house with one of these devices.

this is so simple a kid could do it.
