Quote of the day. Regarding Females and Marine Corps Pull Ups.

The quote of the day regarding females and Marine Corps Pull Ups comes from "Chap" in a comment over at USNI Blog in response to Jeanette Haynie's latest feminist rant.
It just takes time and training. Yes, with a lot of time and intensive training, female Marines can get to the level that men have to meet the day they report to boot camp.
Wow.

I hadn't even considered that. A female will be able to graduate from boot camp at the same strength level as a male that enters.

And you believe that females will stand up to the rigors of infantry life?

  1. Maybe if women want those combat jobs, they should at least extend training by one year for them. Just like the IDF, where if any woman wants a ground combat job, they have to do an extra year of training before they do their job.

    1. Israel is different for very good reason. they're on a constant war footing. if the US faced the same pressure our society would break apart. its just that simple. quite honestly for a nation that is surrounded by enemies they're quite liberal in their thinking today and i believe that will be their ultimate downfall.

don't be fooled by so called Israeli mixed gender combat units. they know better than anyone else what would happen to a Jewish woman kidnapped by Muslim terrorist.

its just for show. they'll never be fed into the meat grinder unless the very existence of the state is in jeopardy. of course by that time they'll be doing a Nazi Germany (ironic analogy) at the end of that state. 11 year old boys will be picking up guns.

    2. Here is a much better idea. Male or Female you have to have a passing PFT/CFT before you are allowed to ship to the Depots. If you do not have the mental fortitude to do the Armstrong pull up program and do at least 3 pull ups you will not make it in combat arms anyway.

    3. well lets be honest. in infantry, artillery, tanks, aav or combat engineers you're gonna catch hell and never get promoted if you can only do the minimum on your PFT...or at least thats how it used to be. i've had BN commanders that wouldn't promote to NCO unless the Marine could do at least 75% or better and then he better be sterling in every other respect. officers? you better be maxed out or real close or you were looking at an adverse fitness report...especially if you were boot. might be different now and i suspect it is

    4. That's why I think for women, they should be required to do a year of training before the report to a Combat unit. That includes Basic training and Infantry school all in the one year time frame.

    5. Fun with math.
      30,000 new recruits every year.
      15% are female
$100,000 cost to the USMC per recruit for a year
= 450 million dollars in the cost of training females alone.

Budgetting is a zero sum game so that 450 million has to come from somewhere.

    6. I think that politically correct compromises are just a bunch of idiotic decisions made to satisfy others. I doubt combat efficiency is improved if the standards have to be lowered for some. This is common sense which is sadly relatively uncommon at times these days.

  2. The whole idea of women in combat is nuts. We have 'em and they don't.

  3. We have it in French Army : They have lower Physics selection criteria BUT womens that want to see combat HAVE to accept infantry life : no special treatement except for some thing : separate rooms in boot Camp, separate tent on FOB's.
In combat units, no commander send womens in combat if they can't meet physical requirement...
They are pushed to the door gently...BUT we give them the opportunity to integrate combat units.

This is not common to see womens in first line units.
They are and will always be exclude from the Legion.
