USMC Maritime Raid Force Security Element using Aimpoint Micro T-1's???

Staff Sgt. Jon Calaway, an explosive ordnance disposal technician with Combat Logistics Battalion 11, now part of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, begins to unload his weapon after shooting in the prone position during a live-fire exercise here Jan. 23. Personnel conducted a variety of different marksmanship drills to hone and maintain close range rifle skills. Calaway finished shooting a total of 15 rapid reaction shots in the standing, kneeling and prone positions. (Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Demetrius Morgan/RELEASED)
I'll leave discussions of MEU's being designed to serve as a big security element for SOCOM.

I won't touch for now how the Battalion of Marine Infantry is being seconded to a platoon of Force Recon on the MEU.

But I will look and marvel at a Marine using what looks like a Micro T-1 on his issued weapon.

  1. just for the uniformed non military reader (who follows your blog nonetheless):
Whats the issue with it? Sounds like an ordinary Aimpoint

    1. i had just never seen it before. when i left the move toward optics was underway and since its gone full bore, i've seen different optics but never a T-1.

why am i surprised? it seems like a rather limited choice. i wouldn't it trust it past 100 yards and even that might be pushing it. Marines might have to engage at greater distances and to me its an usual choice. of course the bubba is an EOD tech so maybe his view is that his fight will only be close range but since he's doing a security element training that means he might one day.

  3. T1 is a realy good site and a decent choice. it seems the defult optic for the corp is the acog but that is very limited to cqb. the T1 does have the ability to add a magnifier too. the t1 has a 2 minuet of angle so its good for out to 600m

    1. ACOG is 1-4 power out the box. you need to add on a magnifier to the T1. additional are you sure on the minute of angle. i thought it was 4...i have to go look that up.

    2. ACOG is not 1-4 is jut x4. its not a adjustable zoom. http://www.aimpoint.com/us/products/all-products/product-singleview/product/Micro%20T-1/?cHash=bd6b720aa8fb7df60c355d8186245031 2 MOA and 4 MOA. I have used both the t1 and the acog allot. would rather take a t1

    1. yeah you would think a bomb tech would only wear eyewear that can protect. i noticed the lack of a cover but decided that he was playing Joe Cool for the cameras....
