Blue Whale Quad Tilt Rotor via Chinese Military Review.

Wow.

They've penetrated our Defense Dept, our military contractors and our universities.

This is just the latest in a series of Chinese projects that prove that they copy but don't innovate.  We desperately need a concerted counter intel effort launched against that rogue state.

  1. I'm sure the same group of people out there that believe that China only copies US designs or everything they produce is crap is the same group that believe everything that LMT says about how wonderful the F35 is.....

I really believe we will see this Chinese project, Chinese bloggers have mentioned quite a few things about this project and the Chinese are developing an engine that would fit in very nicely. Obviously, it could fly tomorrow, a year or ten years from now but there is no doubt that the Chinese are working on this and it will fly.

    1. NICO, you ever been to China?

If you have, you would understand that Quality Control is a foreign concept and they are just barely able to copy 80s era Russian engines.

    2. Yes, I am lucky to visit China every year and I know quite a few business people there..... they have problems, no doubt but when you look at how fast they are moving and the money they are throwing around, their problems are mere speed bumps. Allied to the fact that they are getting their hands on what ever they can snatch, you and others that think that China is still in the 80s will be proven wrong. I agree, you can't comprehend how fast they are moving if you haven't been there, every year I go, I am amazed about the changes from year to year....the USA and Europeans are dead in the water compared to China.

    3. Not WHOLE China industry stop at 80's, some are rather on modern level. But copy things are always faster then design by themselves, that's create strong infusion of modern tech in to the armed forces but at the same time hampered own development projects.

The main problem is lack of proper engines, not only jet engines but also classic ones. This is an Achilles knee of whole China industry, they are just unable to create modern, high power engine for a long time. Yes, they try all the time but with rather poor result. Dragon change fast, in some ways we stay behind in some we are still way forward. One things that we have still superb to any Chinese designs are engines, we still create better and better ones and Dragon try to chase us down but he is only a dot on the horizon.

The design is interesting, but as many, many... MANY! other designs that Chinese show he will only stay as pretty concept and nice model of some show or another.

  2. Two rotors are harder to control than one, and four are so much more harder to control than two.rotors.

This is the reason why helicopters are safer than V-22s, because they have only single rotor.

So good luck to Chinese engineers. My hats off if they actually pull this off.

  3. Don't worry too much Solomon. I am sure the NSA/CIA/DIO has this things blueprints by now.

  4. I think the Chinese might just give their engineers photos of US designs and tell them to make it work rather than direct copies of US designs. They don't change the aesthetics because there's no need to change a shape that already works.

  5. The US were always influenced by working designs from other nations (and of course the other way around too. But I admit, that design "suggestions" usually were taken from the US)
The US showed in this case, that the concept is workable. Now the chinese try their own version of the concept. They probably use four engines instead of two, because of their lack of engine power per single unit.
Actually I think, that regarding safety and control-ability their design is even better than the us, however probably less efficient. You can change the attitute of their machine, just by altering machine power a bit. This you can control just by using a stupid Iphone gravity sensor and the computer controlled engines. It is (probably) easier to programm, than just using two engines.

  6. The US got their kick start into the 50's with all of the ex-German scientists brought to the land of the free after WW2. As many have said China can just throw money and resources at whatever they want atm.
A quadrotor was always on the cards. Concept drawings have been around for ages. If they could make it say the same size as a C130 then alarm bells would be ringing.

    1. Finaly someone pointing a finger at the right spot ,US was(is) no innovation powerhouse in many fields knowledge was(is still) bought from Europe and Japan and with 3/4 of the population beliving religous shit vs science it will only get worse in the future at top brains are diverted to wallstret and law firms instead of the industry .

You would be suprized how much Chinese simply buy vs 'steal' in auto industry we have seen European car industry managers sell complete factory blueprints to Chinese ,and with all the manufacturing US and Europe ,Japan outsourced to China in past decades you can bet they learned stuff from doing it for us.

Remember the time when Japanese were the copycats of industry and how in couple of decades 'copy' surpassed the original. Look at a current US cars ,they might have been top of the world in the 50-60's now they are piece of crap with tech at least decade behind rest of the world not being able to compete on any other market but in US , in partnerships like Daimler-Chrysler platforms that were decade old and already phased out in Europe were used for the newest US cars like M300 shit phased out as already obsolete is the 'new' stuff and tech in US cars

  7. This is a fairly long video, but it shows a few scenarios of what quadrotors are capable of with proper software and sensors. This includes compensating for lost engine blades.

  8. If the Chinese can't develop it, buy it, they'll steal it!
