MV-22 operating off the French BPC Dixmude. Overblown interoperability?

Note:  The below pics are hot on the internet but a check of the French Marine website reveals that they had to over come quite a few obstacles to putting on this demonstration.  First the only deck spot rated to handle the MV-22's weight is the number one spot.  Next they were concerned about heating issues due to the jet blast from the Osprey's engines.  We can talk interoperability all day long but their are some major issues to consider before we make it work.  At the end of the day this is only propaganda dressed up as concept worthy of pursuit.

  1. "First the only deck spot rated to handle the MV-22's weight is the number one spot."
Given that the largest helicopter in the French Navy the Super Puma has a MTOW only 1500lbs over the MH-60S. About the same as the H-46. Not really surprising.

This issue would also happen with the CH-47, the H-53E/K may not even be able to land on this ship.

  2. Nope, BPc can handle 12-13 tons helo. the front spot can handle more than 20 tons helo : thats all.

The ship was etudied to use Tigre, Puma, Gazelle, Alouette 3, Caracal and NH90..

Altought we can't lift heavy thing with NH90, I approve the use of smaller helo than chinook because when one is going down, there is less casualties...

  3. Is it just my eyes or does it look like they soaked the deck prior to V-22 takeoff or landing

  4. they painted american helipad symbols on deck and removed all helo from the deck, prior to test.
We don't if it was stop and go or real landing with refueling.
