BTR-4E1 Advanced Security.

Thanks Jonathan.

via Defense Aerospace.
State Enterprise Kharkiv Machine Building Design Bureau named O. O. Morozova (SE KMDB), which is part of the State Concern Ukroboronprom, completed production of a new version of armored combat vehicles BTR-4E1 with additional protection.

This variant of the BTR-4E1 extends the family of armored vehicles with wheel formula 8x8, which is already in mass production. SE KMDB has developed and manufactured a prototype and a set of armor hanging to it, which can significantly increase the security of the crew and landing BTR-4E1. With this armor can be installed and dismantled by the crew in the field, depending on whether you choose a combat mission and threat level.

BTR-4E1 is a floating armored vehicle with wheel formula 8x8. BTR-4E1 has a modular design, which has created on the basis of general chassis family of armored vehicles. It includes armored, infantry fighting vehicles, commander, command post, medical and recovery vehicle. Through the use of different combat modules and special equipment machine can be adapted to perform a variety of combat and support tasks.

BTR-4 adopted by the Ukrainian army. The machine is also great interest in foreign partners.
How is it advanced?  I haven't the foggiest.  All I can see is a bit of additional, bolt on armor at the side.

  1. Well, for Ukrainian/Russian standard its advanced.
Depends what engine, gearbox and suspension they use, if they are western and the price of the whole BTR is low then its a good option for moderate militaries.

    1. that makes sense. but are Russian vehicles cheaper because they don't load them up with electronics like we do and worry less about ied's or is it simply because they have a pricing advantage out the box.

Brazil and Turkey are making impressive wheeled vehicles at what i would assume are good prices. do the Russians beat even them?

    2. Well, i dare to assume that the Unit cost of a BTR-4 would be smaller then a vehicle in the same class manufactured in in Turkey or Brazil, the Unit cost of a BTR-4 is less than a million USD.

    3. Also Russian and Ukrainian armored vehicles and tanks are cheaper because they have inherited most of the industrial base to produce armored vehicles after the collapse of the USSR, and of course cheaper labor, but most importantly the design bureaus with their vast experience from the past 80 years.

  3. At one time there was a known sweet spot at 12 o'clock above the wheel in the wheel well that a large caliber Rifle or MG could penetrate and take out the driver.
If this ain't fixed then it's the same vehicle with mods that are superficial.
