WARSAW — Ukraine’s government has decided to set aside an additional 6.8 billion hryvnia (US $697 million) for defense spending to mobilize troops, modernize weapons and improve the operational capacities of the country’s armed forces, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said.Crisis clarifies priorities....
With Ukraine’s military power considerably less imposing than that of Russia, the latest move could launch a much-needed string of arms modernization and acquisition programs, local analysts said.
The prime minister said in a statement that the need to boost his country’s defense expenditure is related to Russia’s military intervention in the Crimean peninsula.
“Today we are talking about protecting our country,” Yatsenyuk said.” All other expenses are not worth anything if the Ukrainian Army, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are not able to protect the state.”
I wonder if "to protect the state" will include nuclear weapons. If that happens could we see the start of a nuclear arms race?
ReplyDeletewell lets face it. Ukraine is nuclear capable if they don't have nuclear weapons in secret. i would imagine they would use nukes...but a nuclear arms race in Europe? not likely. too pacifist, too liberal, too ready to surrender rather than fight. of course i'm not talking about everyone but just the majority of the people there.
DeleteUkraine gave up its nuclear weapons ,US paid for their disposal and they are probably sorry now that they gave up the only trump card they had.
DeleteEurope is balls deep in bussines in Russia combine that with weak recovery and you can figure out why there is such a mild response.

ReplyDelete"Japan wants U.S. to get abductees if N. Korea faces internal conflict
Japan intends to seek U.S. assistance in rescuing Japanese nationals abducted by North Korea in the past in case North Korea falls into internal conflict, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Wednesday.
"It's extremely important that we seek support from the United States, our ally," Abe told the House of Councillors Budget Committee. "We've provided information on Japanese abductees (to the U.S. side), while seeking support when necessary."
"To send in a special unit of the Self-Defense Forces to help get (the abductees) out of the country would be difficult due to the constraints of Article 9," Abe said."
For those who don't understand the context of Abe's statement, 1. Japanese abductees are held at Pyongyang. 2. "Rescuing" Japanese abductees would involve sending in JGSDF special troops into Pyongyang to extract them out.
Now, this is a crazy statement, basically a Japanese invasion of Pyongyang with the US escort being discussed by Prime Minister Abe. And why does Abe want to drag the US into this? To protect SDF aircraft and troops from the ROK air defense, which declared the whole of Korean peninsula off-limit to Japan's so-called "Mutual Defense" rights and threatened to shoot down any Japanese special forces landing in North Korea.
So it is not just China with a tendency to invade in this region, Abe administration too wants to invade Pyongyang, and the disputed islands held by Russia and ROK too.
We paid and organized a revolution in ukraine
ReplyDeletewe give him 20M$ to help ukraine economy
... and we will sell him 20M$ of weapons ...
