The Russians are getting their new Amphibious Infantry Vehicle into service rather quickly. But despite the big fast LCAC, the interesting BTR-82A or other vehicles, ships and airplanes in Russian service the one that I think the Marine Corps/Navy would best copy is this tracked landing craft...
A heavy duty tracked vehicle designed to carry cargo from ship to the front lines is exactly what we're missing. No need to transfer cargo from landing craft over to 7-ton trucks...just straight to those who need it. If not for that then it would make a fantastic LARC-V replacement.

That big tracked DUKW thing is nuts - I just had to look it up. They've had it in service for almost 50 years!

you just saved me much time. i was going to dig into it later but don't have to now. thanks.
DeletePolish army use them, good for SAR mission in case of floods. Not too stable in open sea, good for close shore operation, very close. If you want something that will drop in sea beyond horizon well PTS is not for that job. But true speaking, it's big, tough, simple and can take a lot of equipment.
DeleteRussia is going to procure the latest version of PTS the PTS-4

GREAT info Gunner. i like the look of this vehicle. smaller than the PTS yet still carries a respectable load ...this definitely could serve as a more effective LARC-V for our amphibious fleet.
DeleteIt is a very good tool for amphibious forces. Russians have some very interesting on their arsenal.
Delete2S23 is an other very interesting Vehicle

ReplyDeleteQuestion: In the first picture, the Zubr. WTF is that guy doing in the middle of this "tower"? He's out in the open.

DeleteHe is manually aiming via a remotely-mounted gunsight the 2 AK-630 30mm turrets
DeleteThe best feature is that the whole back section swings down as a ramp so you can drive on a smaller vehicle.
ReplyDeleteThis would be great for some remote areas (think small islands off Scotland, areas of Alaska and Canada).
