Ares was a really bad plane and ant the gun was in the wrong place so even the short bursts induced a left yaw ,a longer bust would probably walk left of target
Slick looking aircraft but given a choice between a Warthog and a Scorpion, I'd still pick the A-10. willing to be convinced, but nothing yet that does.
It's price is supposed to fall in between a Super Tucano and the more expensive M346, Golden Eagles.
It isn't fly-by-wire, so the electronics are easy to replace and the engines are Honeywell TFE731 turbofans, which is a very common commercial engine used on business jets, so training and spares are plentiful. The cost per flight hour is estimated to be $3000 which makes it far cheaper to operate than more advanced trainers, but better armed and faster than a Super Tucano-type turboprop.
This is going to marketed at small 3rd World airlines that need jets, but don't want the huge costs in maintenance, training etc. Think Thailand, Bolivia, Phillipines, Tanzania, etc.
Fly Angry is flying about as Angry a your typical airliner. LOL
ReplyDeleteI was always an Ares fan myself....

The same 25mm cannon as the AV-8.

ReplyDeleteMight make a good combat trainer. But I agree with Richochet, if the A-10 Warthog is a choice it's no contest.

You know if they can build it right, this could be a more modernized version of the A-10, A-7 or even A-37 Dragonfly.
