Wow.
I don't know the details but this is fantastic news and I can't wait to lay my hands on the article. I GUARANTEE that the Jungle Expert Tab will be coveted....not as much as Ranger but a step above Sapper and probably on par with Airborne (Not quite sure how the tab issue works).
Sidenote: Glad to see they're using old school BDU's for the course. I'm really getting a bit peeved at the vision of Marines running around the jungles of the Pacific in Desert Cammies because the Commandant designated it a "summer uniform". Yeah that's right. Climate specific uniforms have been reduced to being the same as Chucks in garrison.

How do tabs work? Can a soldier have a nice and neat column of tabs from shoulder to elbow (if there were that many tabs). Or is more along the lines of a tab from a higher level school replacing a tab from a lower level school?
ReplyDeletewell what i was actually referring to is how they're ranked in preference. i remember talking to an SF bubba (years ago) and he had the SF tab, below that Ranger and then below that Airborne.
ReplyDeletewhere would a Jungle Tab go in that order? back in the day they had a chest device (or patch, the history books i've read aren't quite clear on the issue)....theoretically you could end up with some serious tab issues unless the Army uniform board (or whatever they call it) gets proactive. what happens if you have a SF, Ranger, Airborne, Sapper? Don't think it can happen? talk to a SF engineer or weapons Sgt. tab inflation!
Doesn't the French Foreign Legion still hold Jungle Warfare school in French Guyana. Here's the link http://3rei.legion-etrangere.com/mdl/info_liste_a.php?article_theme=39&idA=186&block=23&idA_SM=0&titre=english-version
ReplyDeleteHow does III MEF operate for 60 years in the Western Pacific and have a 1 week Jungle Warfare course, the Army has a much smaller footprint (outside of Korea) in the Pacific and less than 5 years into the "pivot" they establish what will become a superior jungle warfare school...
ReplyDeletekinda sad ain't it. this is what happens when you have a non-Marine in charge of the Marine Corps.
DeleteSol, The Army will have to revise DA Pam 670-1, section 22-16 page 245. The Jungle tab was a sought after tab back in the '80's and was "fun" to get in Panama. You had to have it to be a "true" light fighter in the old 7th Division. With the "pivot" to the Pacific, it with the Ranger tab will be back in vogue.
ReplyDeletei just can't get how the US Army is beginning to eat the Marine Corps lunch on basic Marine Corps stuff!
Deletea jungle school? the USMC should be all over it. and i mean a real jungle school, not a fucking endurance course. this is the real deal and the Army is to be applauded.
i'll tell you what, if i was still active in the USMC i'd be fighting to get a seat in the Jungle School and i bet a bunch of active duty Marines will too. hell i can see MARSOC, Rangers and others fighting to get there much less conventional infantry.
this is gonna be hotter than anything once it gets going for the people that matter.
Will it be grandfathered for those few of us still around that that went through the course in Panama?
ReplyDeleteNUNCA SERÃO! SELVAAA!
ReplyDeleteBOA SORTE GRINGOS,SELVA!!!
