Jordan's baby gunship gets precision 2.75 missiles.

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the U.S. Navy have formally signed a Letter of Offer and Acceptance for the first international sale of BAE Systems’ Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWSTM) laser-guided rocket.
Great system.  Great idea.  But the range issue bothers me.  5 miles puts you solidly in the range of enemy systems.  Can the range be extended?  I hope so.  Jordan has some very bad guys going at it across their border and these gunships will get used.

  1. To extend range you probably need to modify the air frame, find a more efficient motor, etc. All those things add up, it becomes unaffordable. Laser rocket is a cost-effective solution based on huge inventory of unguided Hydra rockets. It's a poor man's Hellfire, cheaper but less capable. It’d be nice to have a fire and forget round that can automatically seek its target versus laser targeting.
On a related topic, I think it’s time for US to acquire a fire and forget TOW round. To speed up development, just marry TOW body and warhead with JAVELIN guidance system. You will have a much improved heavy AT system for folks on the ground. No more painstaking target aiming until impact while bad guys are shooting at your location.

    2. Gunships are only usable against local ragheads ,its not a weapon system survivable enough to use in any military on military conforntation.
