Open Carry "Activists" finally getting push back...

I wrote about the insanity of Open Carry into public places a couple of times in the past year (here and here).

Most of you agreed with me 100%.

A few pushed back hard.

It seems we've reached critical mass on the subject and the gun community has finally woken up to the idea that Open Carry is insanely dangerous (to the person open carrying) and hurting the gun rights cause.  Check out an article by The Bang Switch and Haus of Guns.

A tidbit from TBS...
At what point are the open carry activists going to stop, take a breath, and look at the results of their actions? The results are not positive. The results, by any measure, are negative. If they keep this up, more states are going to follow the lead of CA, where open carry activists were recently successful in getting open carry outlawed.
You guys aren’t helping us, you are hurting us!
It took long enough!

Tactically open carry for a civilian in a rule of law scenario makes no sense.  First you're advertising that you have a gun.  Second, unless you're in magnificent shape, have outstanding gun retention skills/unarmed combat training, and have the proper anti-snatch gear, you are a target to have your weapon taken if you're lucky and taken/killed with it if you aren't.

This push back from the gun community is long overdue.

I guess this is a case of better late than never.

  1. On topic I have really been waiting for some gang bangers to drive up and shoot a few of these guys and take their guns.

On a different note her is an article on the Detroit police chief saying he is pro gun.

    1. exactly!!!

quite honestly i'm surprised that you haven't seen one of these guys beaten to a pulp, his weapon taken and then they try and file a police report.

the Detroit Police Chief has no choice. his dept is under resourced and people are scared. unlike most areas of the US crime is DEFINITELY NOT down there. people need guns to survive and they're going to carry regardless of how the Chief feels.

    2. The only thing that guy would fight to save is his big mac.... even if he could shoot...and communicate, he isn't much for moving.

    3. and despite his size i don't think he could fight long enough to save his beloved big mac!

    4. Hey hey hey....dont knock off the Big Guy.....judging by his shorts and sneakers....he looks like one of those fat people who then become surprizingly good at basketball...like a stealth fattie...hiding his spryness till the verty last moment.

  2. I'm rather ambivalent on this one but do you seriously think open-carrying would not have inevitably been outlawed in Kalifornia - regardless of open carry advocates?

    1. some states are lost and probably can't be saved. California, New York...the entire upper northeast....what i'm concerned about is giving politicians in free states ammo to restrict rights.

if i'm out and about i don't want to see some fat slob with an AR-15 just walking the streets (thats cop or civilian). you can yell about rights till the cows come home but its still tactically stupid. and defeats the purpose of civilians carrying weapons.

    2. Sol we were given intel from the start of the open carry stuff that anti gun groups had people inside the groups and possibly running some to help create outrage and possibly conflict with local law enforcement.

    3. doesn't surprise me. we're getting to the point of people picking causes to die for. some lunatic decides that being anti-gun is that cause and decides to commit suicide by cop while "open carrying" to get the whole thing shit canned is probably somewhere on the horizon.

quite honestly a supposed "open carry advocate" hasn't been shot dead by cops by now is surprising. you're talking about a great deal or restraint being shown. i'm a gun guy but let some clown walk down the street open carrying an AR. i'm watching him real carefully and the FIRST false move will see him gunned down. sorry but thats just the way it is. you don't do this type of shit in polite society.

  3. I agree, walking into a store with a semi automatic scary looking gun is dumb and doesn't do anything for anyone.
My Gunny could snatch a rifle out of an offending Pvts hands so fast his head would spin.
    Then who has the gun?
Pistols maybe, AR and AK platforms are just asking for trouble.
leave them at home unless your going to the range or hunting.
