US Army Camo. This is the next step.

The US Army chose the Scorpion pattern as the camo for their next battle dress uniform.

Ok.  No need to argue it, its done.  But what does need to be discussed is how they proceed on their web gear.

Trying to do it all in Scorpion pattern will be unnecessarily expensive and will not add flexibility to their system.

What they need to do.  What they can do is to adopt Coyote Brown as the color for their web gear!  If nothing else it will bring standardization to the US military and save on cost.  Its really a no brainer.

  1. I don't think cost is really an issue, at the end of the day uniform is cheap and America has money. You could probably fund new webbing for the entire US Army for less than the cost of a single F-35 so I don't think safety should be compromised for such a small saving.

  2. Expect all the multicam gear we used in OEF to finally get recycled back into use.

Since at the point we use different rucksacks, assault packs, body armor, MOLLE pouches, and helmets than the USMC, I don't see what sort of cost savings could be had by going to coyote as a base color.

I think that brings up the bigger question, why are we using two different sets of kit?

    1. true enough. you guys use Carl Gustavs we use SMAWs. same mission, different weapons. but on the kit front it becomes even more obscene. except for specific maritime mission stuff it makes no sense.

but as far as the multicam stuff i thought that would be pitched since the scorpion is coming online.

last but not least i thought you were in the middle of your PCS move....hows that going? 5 tons of stuff? JESUS! you've got alot of gear!

    2. Multicam is also called OCP. Scorpion will also be called OCP and all of the old MC gear will be re-used until it wears out.

  3. Final out inspection for housing is on Wednesday, after that it is a road trip back to "home" where I haven't been since 2010...

I think the 5 tons came from having two boys. I'm pretty sure we gave away three tons of baby stuff which explains why we are on lower PCS weight shipment statements this time. As of right now we are at less than 50% of authorized weight for paygrade, so we are doing good.

    1. no, don't take me wrong. i'm just always surprised by how much gear a family accumulates compared to single people. add in two strapping young men and it becomes huge. i want to check back when they're teenagers....that should be interesting.

  4. You would have to presume that the Army has a brain in the first place.

  5. Mix it up with OD green and Coyote brown, belts and packs one color straps and other gear bags mag holders another. in camo uniformity is not an issue.
Make two basic colors of every part and issue to the troops at random per soldier.
