When I first saw this mockup (or is it the actual vehicle) of the CV90, I cheered. But then I took a better look at it and I wonder what they were thinking. Why would you put such a high profile RWS on the vehicle when its low profile in every other respect? I know you want your optics high but there had to be a better way....additionally, and I am hardly an expert but why would you have the optics below the gun??? If you're trying to extend view range and you're going with a tall RWS to get it then you want your optics at the highest point don't you? |
Here's Rafael's English page on their RWS products. Doesn't say a whole lot. http://www.rafael.co.il/Marketing/280-994-en/Marketing.aspx?searchText=turret
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that the turret better accomodates positions for observation and/or fire behind defilade.
ReplyDeleteAs for the peculiar position of the optic, perhaps improved stability and protection from damage. Just an educated duo of guesses.
I love the CV90. That is one sexy vehicle. If this is indeed a real CV90, it appears as if it is equipped with the rubber band tracks like Ive seen other newer improvements equipped with. Im curious if this is fitted with the hybrid-electric powerplant like what they're supposed to be upgraded with?
Anyways, I appreciate your blog. I always am curious about new military procurements going on.
its competing in a dutch comp against some pretty tuff company. they're going tracks in defiance of the wheeled trend.
