Shut it down then.
If the HQMC does not value and believe that combat ops are the reason for our existence then its time to end the Marine Corps.

Until it can develop a long-range, speedy ship-to-shore connector, the Marine Corps is putting crisis response ahead of combat operations as its most important mission, a top Marine capabilities officer said July 15.Combat operations are no longer the Marine Corps most important mission.
The service’s emphasis in the current fiscally constrained environment is “crisis response at the expense of combat operations,” Brig. Gen. William Mullen, chief of the capabilities development directorate at Marine Corps Combat Development Command, said at a forum hosted by the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C.
“If we absolutely had to do it, we would,” Mullen said. “But it would be a stretch. … The capabilities we need to do crisis response are not as robust as what we need to do major combat operations.”

An interesting news. Abe says he can block US marines based in Japan from deploying overseas.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said that under a bilateral security arrangement, U.S. Forces Japan is required to secure Tokyo’s understanding should it want to send its marines to the Korean Peninsula in the event of contingencies here.
His remarks at a parliamentary session on Tuesday triggered concerns in Korea that Tokyo’s political calculations could impede the rapid deployment of U.S. troops to the country if conflict occurs on the peninsula.
“U.S. marines depart from Japan. As (that) is an issue that requires prior consultation (between the U.S. and Japan), (the marines) cannot rush to the defense of South Korea without Japan’s understanding,” Abe was quoted as saying by Kyodo News.
thats bullshit. the Japanese prime minister can say whatever but at the end of the day he's irrelevant when it comes to the deployment of US forces. no one is going to get excited about what he says because everyone knows that he has no power and his words are meaningless.
DeleteWhile specifically mentioning the US marines as an example, Abe's statement actually covers all of US Forces Japan so the USAF cargo planes cannot even land or depart from Japan to resupply US forces deployed in Korea without the Japanese government's consent in wartime.
DeleteIn turn, the US has demanded Abe to not visit Pyongyang or further relax sanctions, an important diplomatic issue for Abe as Abe's using the recovery of so-called Japanese hostages in Pyongyang to boost his domestic poll numbers after the Article 9 revision fall out and portray himself as a leader who can do things that other Prime Ministers called "Impossible".

Actually he can and there are precedences. The SM-3 missile is a joint US-Japan project, and Japan has long declined to issue an export license for SM-3 missile citing its weapons-export ban, making the SM-3 unexportable to countries building land-based Missile Defense systems.
Then there is the infamous Japanese demand that US seek Japanese permission for the further exports of F-35, claiming that the Japanese parts in the F-35 makes them subject to Japanese arms export control law.

Previous regulations required the U.S. to get permission from Japan before any transfer of military equipment to a third country, even if Japan had supplied only 1 percent of the components.
dude. seriously? the news article you quote is talking about japanese defense firms. it has nothing to do with the F-35. additionally the japanese did NOT develop the SM-3. you have a HUGE hate on for the japanese. personally i don't care. what i do care about is you attempting to spread alarm when none is necessary.
Deletelike i've said before. the asian countries can have hard on's for each other and thats fine. just leave us out of your petty squabbles.

"Previous regulations required the U.S. to get permission from Japan before any transfer of military equipment to a third country, even if Japan had supplied only 1 percent of the components. "
The F-35 was covered under this regulation which was since revised. But the export red tapes on the SM-3 export shows how Japan can make things difficult for the US to do its job, and this Abe's threat of blocking the US Marines from leaving Japan is real too. Essentially, Abe wants "benefits" for letting the US troops based in Japan to deploy overseas, like the control of the Liancourt Rocks or letting the Japanese GSDF troops accompany the US marines so that they could stay in North Korea permanently and build a radar base aimed at China within North Korea.
WHAT A LOAD OF SHIT! A ground-pounder, infatry or tanks officer needs to get back in as Commandant. And I was air wing-bound before my medical out of PLC's. Amos surprises me... Any Marine pilot knows his/her main role is to provide support to the Marines on the ground. This jackass is almost gone, but all his buddies that blindly follow him need to go too. I can't decide whether or not these officers are trying to make him look stupid by giving these briefings, or they actually believe this stuff? What has happened to the Marine Corps I grew up with?
ReplyDeleteyeah Dunford is going to have to clean house big time. you want to hear a rumor that will have you punching walls?
Deletesupposedly Amos was politicking behind the scenes to get a second term as CMC so that he could finish the "Marine Corps' transformation"!
I can't say I'm surprised... But, thank God that's not happening. Let's go Gen. Dunford!
DeleteWhile, generally speaking, i agree with you Sol, I think this is more of a move to save their own ass than anything else. No one wants to lose their job. How else can the Corp stay relevant without the proper equipment? Granted, it's HQ's own fault they're in the situation they're in.
ReplyDeleteLet's just merge them into the Army and be done with it :P
bullshit Steven! they are throwing shit against the wall to justify stupidity and to explain to Marines who are uniformed and civilians who don't know any better why they haven't replaced the AAV.
Deletethe talk about needing a new connector that can transport armor from 200 nautical miles offshore is pure bullshit. the sea state can change so much in that 10 hour trip that a landing might not be possible....hell during the trip it might not be possible for them to continue!
this is an excuse nothing more.
It's you disagree with my comment. I feel like you wrote the same thing I did.
DeleteOh well! Consider us on the same page.
It's ODD. Without that word, my comment makes no sense. Sorry.
Deleteinternet misunderstanding. i saw merge with the Army and lost my mind. my bad.
DeleteTo quote "Invictus:" Brenda Mazibuko: You're risking your political capital, you're risking your future as our leader. Nelson Mandela: The day I am afraid to do that is the day I am no longer fit to lead.
DeleteAn officer is supposed to stand up for what is right. Politics has always been in the military, however it is a leaders moral obligation to take care of his troops/people. Making them hurt for political gain is criminal.
Words fail me. The whole world knows that the USMC is/was the USA's go-to force for initially dealing with conflicts and threats. The reason that Marine guards were important at embassies in the world's eyes is because their uniform represents the locked and loaded weapon of the USMC behind them. No BS, US Marine was always synonymous with 'feared warrior'. And that serves US interests like no other reputation. Even if generals and politicians no longer believe that (a fatal mistake) - they sure as hell shouldn't say it out loud!
