Thanks Mr. T for these pics.
I will never get over how the Eastern Europeans (and we're starting to see it in Western countries too) like to paint their tanks in those gawd awful, bright ass colors.
I digress.
This post mainly is to show the high tech nature of the weapons that the Rebels are using against the Kiev government forces.

Heh one of tank just lack a confederate flag over the turret... you know what I mean right?
ReplyDeleteWhich bright colours ,the 2 tanks that are painted in vivid colors with a kid standing on top are part of the fixed expo(many east European cities have colorful tank monuments as peace or anti war monuments) and are not part of gear captured from the rebels .

ReplyDeleteIn fact, those T-72 and T-64 painted in orange and blue are part of a static exhibition of the Ukrainian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War. They are visible in google maps (50.427744, 30.564518)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, great museum :)

Mr. T provides pics of captured weapons, then Mr. T says they are museum pieces.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't seem Fair. (pun)
the 2 coloful ones are permanent exibits while the rest is in ww2 style morale boosting show of booty ,problem is that since booty is 100% ukrainian in origin it could as well be just picked up in local barracks and paraded as rebel gear who knows.
DeleteOrange is perfect urban camouflage! just paint BEER on a tank like a big billboard.
ReplyDeleteI recall during D-Day 6-6-44 allied aircraft had bright white bands painted all over them so they would not get Blue on blue.
BUT, these are obviously static war trophy and memorial displays.
I've long believed that army trucks shouldn't obviously be army trucks, in OD or in silly cammy. In today's world they should be red and green and blue so they blend into the civilian traffic. Call it counter-IED.
DeleteDoes anyone know how to fight anymore? It seems a tad bit early to show off captured equipment in a conflict that is far from over and while your nations military rather anemic performance is jeopardizing the energy future of Western Europe. Also, what message does this send, "hey check out the equipment that we captured from the Russians who are beating our ass. The same Russians who are about to adsorb our nation, and hold the natural gas that we supply Europe with hostage, while we have a fucking picnic"? Ever since our grandfathers, we have become larger puss's with each consecutive generation.... it is weak f---ing displays like this that are going to allow a global shift in power...
ReplyDeleteMorale lad, classic morale booster. If you check let's say Second World War you will notice that not only after but in time of war many nations show captured enemy equipment for civil to show that they... well capture it. Nothing new.
DeleteMorale boosting shows like these were regular in WW2 also in US ,remember when they were seeling war bonds. Here they are crowd sourcing cash for their poor military.https://medium.com/war-is-boring/ukraine-is-crowdfunding-its-army-f819fa24353
DeleteThat's also nothing new, US had war bonds, in many poorer nations before War a fundraising was popular way to give army more equipment. I remember one when before 39' in Poland newspapers street sellers donate money to buy a heavy MG on tachanka for army. Those type of activities was pretty popular back then.
DeleteI understand and I appreciate the war bond correlation, but I guess my point is this: If the Imperial Japanese Army landed in San Francisco on the first of March (1945), and immediately annexed central California to defend american citizens of Japanese descent from being placed in internment camps, by the US Government. We would not be sitting here 3 months later having a picnic. Moreover, people talk to much and act far to little. I can not think of one crisis such as this which has had a favorable resolution thanks to talking. Russia/Putin, know that they have Western Europe buy the sack, and everyone else to gun-shy to do anything. The Ukraine should have kept their strategic weapons instead of handing them over to the Federation. Such proud warrior culture decimated by acquiescence, good luck Europe it is going to be a cold and expensive winter. One more thing, if your morale is in need of a boost because your country was invaded/annexed 3 months ago, by a handle full Russian Special Forces and impoverished uneducated separatist, you are fucked, you haven't had enough time to experience any catastrophic loss of material or men, if you have to give your citizens a prep talk 3 months into you are fucked, because they aren't worried about losing something they do not possess.
Deleteeven if they don't get where you're coming from, i do Will! and to me you're spot on----100 percent spot on. this is an extension of the selfie culture. instead of being focused on defeating an enemy that is now occupying large portions of their country they're putting on county fairs! its craziness in a handbag. talk about war bonds and crowd sourcing is silliness. if you have an enemy operating on your own soil you're talking about a total war condition. they should be rationing, taxing and compelling to serve every able bodied person possible.
Deletethe fact that they haven't done so makes me wonder if the Kiev government is actually taking this seriously. additionally why haven't we seen concentrated and sustained attacks against the rebels?
is it because they're pussy? i'm beginning to wonder.
I agree pussies. I like your comment about the selfie generation. I had to have a talk with my assistant yesterday about that same deal. They think if you get a 1000 likes then you will have a successful event or it will go viral.... The only thing they don't understand is someone still needs to plan the event, contract the event, execute the plan for the event, work the event and finally cleanup up after the event. All you have with something that is viral or 1000 likes and no one to commit to action, is a bunch of douches jerking each other off, all talking about the same thing, while you become the newest members of the Soviet Union 2.0. I think they believe in magic. Anyway, have a good wekend brother, semper fi, I always enjoy my visits to your blog....
DeleteSolomon - one government was overthrown because the population of the Ukraine got fed up with it. The people currently in power know just how tentative their control is, and how quickly they could wind up rotting in a cell (or worse) and a new "emergency government" installed in Kiev. As is, Ukraine is broke. They've already had to cut pensions and industrial subsidies big-time, which is apt to drive Russian-speaking groups in the south and east even further into Putin's arms - people think with their stomachs, and the Ukraine as a nation was poorer than the Dominican Republic even before this war started. Conscription has been restarted, and proven to be very unpopular and hard to enforce - instead, Kiev has had to turn to hard-to-control militias that are almost as much a threat to them as the Donbas rebels.
DeleteIn a civil war, especially one like this, *everything* is political. Even victories, depending on which pro-Ukrainian faction is responsible for them.
Korean defense ministry has officially announced the selection of the C103 configuration for the KFX. A change in spec means the minimum engine thrust has been increased to 44,000 lbs and the external ordinance payload to 20,000 lbs. This is due to increasing future munitions weight, with the ROKAF requiring a 4,000 lbs class munition capability. The IOC date is 2025, and an export model will cost $80 million flyaway(They are not trying to recover development cost from foreign customers). Even so, export is expected to be poor due to high cost, but will be made up by eventually replacing all of ROAKF's 430 fighter jet inventory with KFX and KFXX(The follow on F-15K replacement program, which will share KFX's external shape but be totally redesigned internally to achieve VLO like the F-15D->F-15E transition)
ReplyDeleteThe sticky point has been Lockheed Martin, which has threatened to boycott the C103. Since the word on the street is that the negotiation with Lockheed was going nowhere and the Korean government may have to run a final run off bidding between Boeing and Airbus Military for the purchase of either F-15SA or the Typhoon to get the KFX C103 program rolling.
http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/yonhap-news-agency/140718/s-korea-opts-double-engine-platform-indigenous-fighters
Oh, the recent ATD-X unveiling was instrumental in crushing internal opposition to C103 model. This is because while the Korean government can't imagine going to war with China without the US military alongside, the prospect of Korea having to go to war with Japan alone with the US staying out of the war is very real to them. So "Do you really want to battle Japan's F-3 over the Liancourt Rocks and Tsushima in that Lockheed proposed C501" argument was able to overcome the Lockheed lobby, which is very strong and is firmly rooted.
DeleteCan someone confirm this?
