Another Ukrainian project. It really appears that when you run out of money you really do begin to think. Tons of tank chassis lying around, what do you do? You turn them into heavy APC's!
If you are interested in these tank-based APC you can also be interested in a project of an APC-tank. A tank with a troop compartment. http://super-arsenal.ru/blog/43836248288/BTMP-84-(Ukraina)-–-simbioz-tanka-i-bronetransportyora
If i remember correctly they started these projects with some Jordanian potential order in the sights couple of years ago. On the other side Ukraine has some 2500 tanks many in storage depos ,these are just begging to be used. I bet they would really need some of these now.
What impresses me is the armor thickness ,you know a typical APC has steel around 1/2in thick for base chassis all else is bolt on and much of the armor is just spaced so looks thick while in reality is a empty box
Here you have solid slabs of armor plate Frontal armor 350 + 40 mm Side armor 82 ± 20 mm. Reactive aromor + DZ "Contact" Rear armor 40 mm
Both Ukrainian ideas of tank-based heavy transporters – on wheels and the “double-dealing” above – are very interesting and perspective for Ukrainian army. This is why I always tell Ukrainians still have possibility to create an effective to all their challenges army. But there is a catch – all leading armor designing and making plants –Morosova, Malysheva (almost dead) and the armor maintenance plant – are located in Kharkov, the city too close to Donbas rebels. The armor maintenance plant was under rebel’s attack recently. So Ukrainians must relocate all this complex (design-producing-maintenance) in other region, most likely – in Western Ukraine. But it looks like they need really dictatorship regime to do this. Porosheko tried to do thes recently – to obtain a dictator authority under the pretext of “Russian aggression”. But he failed because of Western oppression. So there is no technical possibility to realize the ideas.
These projects were built as private ventures with minimal funds and there was no funding for production or further development ,as ukrainian Oligarhs (Poroshenko & co) were to busy plundering the nation. Now it came back to bite them (actually common people who are being sent on the front as cannon fodder)
@were to busy plundering the nation.@ It is not the great problem. Putin was oligarch like Poroshenko but Putin found in himself some wisdom to begin think about state interests. Yanukovich stepped on this way – construction of real Ukrainian state with economic support of Putin. But Yanukovich was named by Ukrainian oligarchs as “bloody tyrant” and thrown away. Now the oligarchs are too busy in fighting for assets and have no interest in state matters. But Poroshenko still has a chance to oppress all other oligarchs and became a one leader of the nation. He must establish dictatorship and reload government authority and economy systems. This soil is very rich and USSR left too much advantages to them - just Nuclear power plants which supply cheap energy in scale about 50% of all energy generation.
"Poroshenko is new Hitler! Nazi Dictatorship!" Of course, but who cares? Now RT translate info about numerous loses of Donbas civilians – but it is not interesting for most of Western media. So dictatorship of Poroshenko can be “unnoticed” too. Dictatorship – is single key-way to safe pro-Western regime on this territories. But why the draft of relevant law (named “about sanctions against Russia”) was overridden, that is the question.
to 1Modeus @ Yanukovych thought about state interests?@ Of course IMHO but it looks like he wanted to use government to protect his clan like Putin did. He wanted to reduce oligarch authority via increasing state institutes.
I can actually see that happening, specially since the leftist party was dissolved by the Ukranians recently. Will they move into a new Boris moment and opress all dissent in the western flank too?
I wonder where that supposedly partially destroyed, Ruski armored convoy that supposedly crossed int Ukraine is now. Things like this are just put out for the media to roll over and over again and when no evidence is presented who cares new lie is already rolling in the headlines. I taught there was a thing called investigative jurnalism but it seems that 24h news cycle has no time for that.
Ukrainian military command admitted to 14,378 KIA & WIA, 158 POWs, 8,972 deserters, 31 planes, 20 helicopters, 307 tanks, 145 BMPs, 121 BMDs, 283 BTRs, 14 Grad and 11 Uragan MLRS.
all parties use fakes in this conflict (it is normal), but Ukrainian lie is amazing. When Ukrainian Su-25 attacked Lugansk’s administrative building and several civil women were tore in pieces – Ukrainian media said “it was explosion of rebels MANPAD which hit a conditioner (!!!AAAA) instead the Su-25. When dozens of people were burned alive in Odessa – Ukrainian media first said it was Russian provocateurs only (recently it was proved – all dead were Ukrainians and most of them – from Odessa), then they said these people burned themselves.
Amazing... well Ukraine got some amateurs move, but nothing to compare with absolutely top notch Russian ones. How about some wonderful info about Ukrainian soldiers who crucify child on square that don't exist in Slavyansk, or the Polish army unloading in Odessa. I agree that propaganda is on the roll but Ukrainian one in case of lies and idiotic are only a small weight player against Russian heavy weight champion,.
Word of doubtful refugee showing in gov. TV News. The gov. take responsibility for that one. No mention about famous actor tourists that show all over Ukraine in different role... you think this was a spontaneous masquerade or planed propaganda action?
If we came back to Odessa, let me remind you also about that "witness" in form of non existing Jew doctor that speak about it in Russian news. As it cam out they used the picture of dentist that is working in some shit hole.
I state my opinion, Russian propaganda, even if it was in many cases an absolutely idiotic one. Is a lot more aggressive and intense then Ukrainian one can even dream of. Btw: how about new animation from Russian child's channel under the name "Save citizens of Donbass against Ukrainian aggression"? This is low, even very low... put an propaganda in child's channel?!
Difference is _Russian propaganda is not streamed world wide like Ukrainian is ,outside RT nothing russian comes trough to the west and definetly not on the front pages in the west you can not complain about the same for Ukrainian propaganda.
Offering a counter-point to what we see in the western media and reports is hardly being a troll, specially since the reports by most of these vehicles lack any basing or proof. Check both sides before you believe blindly about Ukraine propaganda being less agressive than Russian's.
All you need to do is take a look at the recent developments:
Claims of 23 destroyed APCs. Refusal to admit the fault of Ukraine's armed forces in the civilian casualties in their push. Wild claims based on "common sense" and "social media". (whatever happened to the intelligence agencies?)
You can check this, and take it for what's it worth, but always be skeptical of -both- sides.
Some nutjobs or are they. http://turcopolier.typepad.com/sic_semper_tyrannis/2014/08/whos-zoomin-who-in-novorossiya-ttg.html http://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2014/08/17/west-respect-truth-longer-exists-paul-craig-roberts/
Just like Frank Zappa said some 20+ years ago: may your shit come to life and kiss you on the face. I wish you a merry putin this year, just don't come back complaining you've been raped afterwards. If you do, just shoot yourself in the face;.
Interestingly, like some other tank conversions, they didn't move the engine. From a drive train perspective, it's a T-64 driving backwards, it's just that the new superstructure effectively flips the vehicle: the old back is now the front, the old front is now the back. You can tell because the drive sprocket, in the rear on a T-64, is now in the front.
I would imagine there must be some transmission modifications and a completely new armor scheme for both ends of the vehicle now.
@the old back is now the front, the old front is now the back.@ Yes, this is why I call it “double-dealing”. A simple decision but controversial – what about frontal armor, how the remove it to the” front” which was “back” before? What about solidity of all carcass? Any way, it looks like this decision is good for producing new vehicle on the technical base for T-64, it is easy to change producing technology using the same devices in slightly different order. But undo a solid tank, remove its armor, reduce solidity, integrity and durability - the game is not worth the candle. Too much work involved…
Maybe when we run out of money we'll get some decent, inexpensive gear too.
ReplyDeleteMore photos of APC's based on the T-64 tank are here http://super-arsenal.ru/blog/43043208675/Ukrainskie-BMP-na-baze-tanka-T-64

180 MBTs were captured in depot ,but yes i would not count those as operatonal losses.
