Why in the West can't we cannot make those simple but effective specialized IFVs anymore and only gold-plated things ? Put on it a active defense system and all sorts of military eletronics if you want but in an amphib operation, like in an airborne one, any type of vehicule that can fight with the troops since the first moments are extremely usefull. I mean this thing use a planning hull or some added floats, this is WW2 technology, just compare it to japanese SNLF lights tanks like this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_3_Ka-Chi Exactly same thing for the airborne IFV, the soviets/russians have special variants since the 1950's.
Chinese now has the most active armor development programs in the world. They have multiple MBT R&D programs, the only water jet powered amphibious vehicle in service today, and the largest formation of 155/52 cal self-propelled guns (while we are stuck with the pathetic Paladins).
ya know i've never seen there amphibious vehicle actually plane on the water. i've seen altered images that replaced real pictures of the EFV on plane with the Chinese vehicle, but never have i seen the vehicle operating at high speed.
and what is so bad about the Paladin? it seems like its more about munitions rather than cannons these days.
Cannon tube still matters. A 155/52 howitzer can reach up to 55 km firing Excalibur round, that’s 1/4 longer than Paladin maximum range using the same projectile. PzH2000 can carry 60 rounds on board and capable of 5 rounds of MRSI, features that are available only with a modern artillery platform.

It resembles a Tango boat with tracks!
