Royal Marines know how to advertise to stir the passions of young men. None of the bullshit running to the sound of chaos to deliver "meals on wheels", they instead show rough conditions, talk about working through hunger and fear, and lastly show their guys going up against scum that need to be eradicated.
The USMC once did it that way too. Hopefully we'll get back to that with a new Commandant in less than a month.
RM recruiting is on a bit of roll at the moment thanks to a new behind the scenes TV programme about recruit training; I have heard but can't verify that figures are up four fold. It has also been interesting to hear comments from British soldiers comparing RM basic to Army basic especially the latter's P Company. The RM over the last few years have become very much the go to service when the UK's defence establishment want somebody with a can do no bull shit professional attitude. Shame the rest of our naval service has gone to hell in a hand basket in its pursuit of political correctness, overt feminist agenda, low moral standards, and obsession with social media PR standards.

Where can I get more info on the RN's PC bull crap?
DeleteIt really works... if I was a brit I would join the royal Marines now.
ReplyDeleteEven the name give you a shiver... ROYAL MARINES!
ReplyDeletewell SOCOM and Special Ops worldwide are trying to gain the same cache as the word "Marine" carries but the guys that do it right don't want the limelight and the ones that do it wrong are seen as prima donnas.
DeleteThe sharp end of UK special forces has 2 components, the SAS and SBS; there is some cross over but they are still officially distinct entities . Though selection is open to all the former has mostly Army recruits and the latter is nearly entirely RM. Every time a sticky situation blows up the media here will come for HMG to send in the SAS. A few ex-SAS soldiers have made living or made some cash out of writing up their war stories. The SBS tends to get on with its business on the quiet and doesn't draw attention to itself.
DeleteGreat catch Sol.
