Talking about blowing something simple out of proportion!
Russian planes buzz a ship at sea? No big deal! Nothing earth shattering. A tempest in a teapot if I ever heard one. Lets look at it this way. If Russian ships were just off the coast of the US doing exercises with the Cuban Navy, I'd expect F-18's to be doing close fly bys. I'm sure Canadian would want the same thing.
Personally I'm beginning to tire of Defense Ministers overstating things. Its almost as if they want to push a diplomatic incident instead of avoiding one.

Russian military aircraft are buzzing the Canadian frigate HMCS Toronto which is on a U.S.-Ukraine training exercise in the Black Sea – low-level flyovers that signal Russia is watching them as tensions remain high between Moscow and Kiev.Wow.
“While the Russian military aircraft that circled the HMCS Toronto did not in any way pose a threat to the Canadian ship, their actions were unnecessarily provocative and risk escalating tensions even further,” Defence Minister Rob Nicholson said.

Yeah, Red's always do this, buzz near ships, fly near NATO machines on Baltic Air mission. Day like always with Ivan in neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteI still wonder why kidnapping of Estonian officer by Russians did not get more wide fallout.
All sorts of stuff goes on at sea. Stuff that states could never get away with on land because out past 12nm the sea becomes a global common. It will all be over by Christmas. The war? No these pathetic attempts to drag us into a non-conflict. The public are not interested and the ones who are interested aren't buying it.
ReplyDeleteSome say they escort them out out almost daily, but the MOD doesn't say it, that's why the bulgarians said it out loud a few months ago, because of the money and the resource of their MIG 29's.
ReplyDeleteP.S
here is a cheerful song from my country about americans (it's not meant to be offensive or anything, listen the whole thing) :)

DeleteSolomon has joined the experts, Adolph, Ho, Stalin, Castro, Mao and Putin with censorship of his blog. Apparently criticism of his lack of critical thinking skills is not allowed.
ReplyDeleteIf you are curious why this keeps appearing ask Solomon to post the details of my supposed insult that he wishes to keep secret.
Once while in a post on a blog or thread when the poster resorts to calling the other poster/blog owner names such as Hitler, Ho, Stalin,Castro, Mao and Putin about the posters attitude, censorship or the way THEY run THEIR blog that person has lost the argument.
DeleteYou are out of line Bubba, it's Solomons blog and under the rules of internet blog ownership....He is God.
Always has been, always will be.
For me and for you, he makes the rules.
Not taking sides in any disputes.
It is his blog.
Off topic : Have you guys heard something about this? .

Yes I heard of it. Surprise when I saw the word Santiago Chile is practically a European-like country these days. Very surprising.
DeleteConcussion device, made to cause fear and disruption, gather attention and not to produce casualties, otherwise a flame or fragmentation device would have been used.
DeleteCould have even been some kids with a little too much explosive for the prank or as serious as a bomb that did not go off as planned.
Chile is usually stable, this is strange.

ReplyDeleteit's russian press, so, you decide...
Well...all I got to say is.....OOOOHHHHRRRRAAAaaa! Get some Marines!
DeleteWe down, we gone...bye bye!
Translator says, American Planes delivered in Kharkiv two multiple rocket launchers.
DeleteSpanish and Romanian news reports they are MLRS being supplied to Ukrainian forces.
C-130 landed ammo and with ammo the launchers moved under their own power down the road.
QUERY: Would US forces lend or insert MLRS systems into Ukraine? With or without US troops to ma and secure such?
probably/most likely is just russian propaganda
Deletethe translation/story is that romanian LAROM MLRS and spanish TERUEL MLRS were carried by 2 US c-130 into Ukraine
OK so they were not US equipment but Spanish and Romanian, That might have happened but it's most likely as you said, Russian Propaganda.
DeleteTranslator just gives so much and Russian translation to any other language has a lot of missed meanings and misunderstood terms.I've found many things about Russian I like, Anna Kochanova is the one I like the best LOL Dancing Katyusha, those dark eyes really steal my heart away.
Nothing more than russian propaganda. LAROM MLRS as well as TERUEL MLRS are too large and too heavy for the Hercules.
Delete"LAWDS!" If you have never seen a Russian TU-95 Bear bomber 151 ft long, with a wing span of 164 feet carrying one or two K type Kitchen missiles (Nuclear capable) honking along at full throttle, 500 (+/- 75) mph @ 100 feet or less off the water straight at your ship and then bounce about 50 to 100 feet higher to clear your superstructure, the crew Grinnin' and waving out the ports and cockpit, all the while with a couple of F-8 Crusader's or F4F Phantom's tucked under each wing you have not lived.
ReplyDeleteThen again one fine clear day here comes a Kamov KA-25 Multipurpose ASW (also Nuclear capable) Helicopter hover over the deck, with it's crew givin' the finger Russian style then you also have never lived.
The take away is this, US Navy aviation units regularly busted Mach at low level just off the deck and just of the sides of a great many Russian ships.
At sea, anything can and does happen, from flying accidentally into superstructure and radio antennae to ship to ship collisions.
What happens at sea, stays at sea.
Loose lips sink ships as well as Naval careers.
This is Normal operations world wide for Naval forces.
