I'd be happy if the Corps would simply return to its fixed-bayonets-to-the-enemy's-throat roots.
ReplyDeleteIf the gang at Eighth and I wants to extend their fingers at tea, all well and good, but the combat arms heart of the Corps should look like the police mug shot lineup after a bar fight between Steeler and Raiders fans, and I want officers who'd be able to enforce discipline on that crew by wading in and butting heads together, rather than a stern finger-wagging. The sort of place Smedley Butler, Dan Daley, Pappy Boyington, and Chesty Puller would feel at home.
Anything beyond that is just lotion from the Public Affairs Office.
well said but the feminization of the Marine Corps is in full swing. after much thought i am having my doubts about Dunford being able to stop it. the Corps as we know it might be on life support and about to die.
DeleteWhen we talk about our amphibious roots it almost always means the amphibious assault and that is only something we have been doing since 1942. We stopped doing them in 1950. So we have 8 years of amphibious assault history and yet is is sold as our true roots.
ReplyDeleteGoing to the fight by Sea and fighting on land is our real roots and I have no problem with that but please let us not mangle our history.
well that matters on what your definition of amphibious assault entails. do you count raids, demonstrations, administrative movements conducted that lead to combat ashore....and other things as amphibious assault?
