I wonder if the Israel and Japan are currently feeling slightly sick, having just ordered the Osprey? Like you I have been following this concept with interest for some time. I genuinely think this is a game-changer for rotary aviation.
Patrick, you took the words right out of my mouth. Has this thing even turned a rotor yet? Has it powered up its electronics, computers, engines?
I am far from any kind of engineer, but I am a pretty good model builder. I could build something that looks like 25th century, gee whizz, oh my god wow also.....but if it is a model...it is a model....no matter how big it is!!
Computer simulations with "notional" engine specifics plugged into a computer DOES NOT equal actual flight. This is the EXACT way we got saddled with the F-35. Technologies have to be "developed" to be implemented.
Another multi-billion dollar boon doggle waiting to happen.

ReplyDeleteSo is that a mockup or an actual prototype?
