Russian & Serbian Airborne Exercise Vid.
The Russians are light years ahead of the US Army's 82nd Airborne when it comes to the art form. Its past time for them to finally develop an airborne APC and light tank.
Oh and a slight shocker. The above vid is from "For the Record" blog. Its dedicated to World of Tanks video game. I've said it once and I'll say it a thousand times. The gaming, modeling and the reenactment communities are a major source for preserving armor history, both past and present.

ReplyDeleteThe Russians introduced Airborne IFV's and APC's back in 1969. since then they have gotten heavier but more or less kept the AirMech as a prime skill. the original vehicle were paper thin in armor. todays still top out at 15 ton's heavier then a M113 but half the weight of a M2A3 Bradley.
ReplyDeleteThey also have there Mi26 which can carry about the same payload as the C130 and theoretically load a BMD.
Outside of the M113 the FCS manned vehicles program ( yes I have heard it all so can it. it's over and not coming back) might have had it been aimed AIrborne and RDF rather than army wide offered some of the same capabilities but it killed off. the Mobile Protected Firepower program might open the door for it but only if it's followed up properly.
