Large Marine Armored Convoy spotted leaving Baghdad Airport?

The above tweet was in my feed.

Alot of times Twitter can be useful and fill you in on breaking news.  Sometimes is just a trollfest from hell.  What has me wondering is that I hadn't heard of any large Marine Corps forces in Iraq at this time.  You have a Reinforced Marine Security Guard element at the embassy.  I've heard that the 82nd Airborne is about to send a Brigade (-) their next month, and of course the Special Ops bubbas but no armor.

Anyone have any visibility on this?

UPDATE:  A reader states that he's just back and suffice it to say (and I'm paraphrasing) 'nothing to this.  We got either trolled, or a local is seeing US Marines behind every bush.  My guess.  If he did see armor rolling out then maybe the Iraqi's are finally getting in gear.

  1. I just got back from Iraq. 82nd is replacing 1st ID. Not many Marines at BDSE, mainly Army. There are armor soldiers just no tanks.

    2. Yeah still in Kuwait. Wasn't sure what the Marines were doing. The Marine convoy was either going to the embassy or the other FOB we are at. Us 1st ID are just doing the last line of defense security at BIAP. I know there is another FOB not too far from BIAP like 45 min away, Army is training Iraqi Army against ISIS. Again 1st ID and probably more Marines. I read an article on Army times saying this training will last 3 years. Nothing bad happening over there. We don't even need to be there. Sad thing is we're redeploying here in 2016.

  2. I have a friend in the 1st battalion, 66th armored regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry division. He claims that his unit is being deployed to Iraq this coming February.
