Buy while you can. Restrictions are coming...

This post is for the gun guys in my audience.

Buy those unique items while you can.  Restrictions are coming...I can smell it.  With the terrorist attack in France, the rampaging idiots in Nigeria and a general realization by the populace that the world is indeed a dangerous place you can expect that short of outright bans (the Republicans wouldn't dare) there will be new documentation requirements.

And we only have ourselves to blame for it.

Remember those Tannerite videos I've complained about?  Now imagine Diane Fienstien getting up on the floor of the Senate showing one of those vids that illustrate how you can use this binary explosive to blow up a truck or barn.

Even the most pro gun Republican couldn't say no to the requirement to document who buys it.  Firearms?  Expect a push to pass a mandatory one week (or longer) waiting period to buy a gun while an extensive background check can be conducted (they'll use the excuse that the wait could disrupt planned terrorist attacks).

That's what I expect from this most recent incident in France.  If terrorist cells have been activated and if they strike then you can expect the left to go ape, soccer moms to be wetting their capri pants and the general public demanding something be done.

And gun guys gone wild gave them the evidence they need by posting videos of foolishness.

Sometimes we're our own worst enemy.

  2. In my state, the sale of "assault" style autoloading rifles is so restrictive that they are essentially banned - this was enacted after the Sandy Hook massacre. Prior to that, magazines were limited to 5 rounds. Yet we still have the thugs running around the projects shooting each other - and just recently a cop who tried to append a suspect with less than deadly force, choosing that course of action probably in reaction to recent events in Missouri.

  3. Agree Sol, but I think executive actions will come first, like refusing import certificates or having police ask dealers for sales rosters like the have in New Jersey.
Or expect things like the California Firearms Safety Certification. This is required for any sale in the State since January 1, but there are very limited locations in the state to receive this certification (essentially creating a backlog or waiting period) and it was not funded so the website and the start-up of the program has not happened yet. The FSC requirement has essentially shut down gun sales in the state since 1 January. When it comes on line, it will become an effective waiting period for all new buyers and act as discouragement.
Republicans have said nothing. Expect them to sit any executive actions out or pay lip service to freedom and not take any action to defend the freedoms.
Hope I am wrong because I may finally have the money this year to buy one thing I have wanted for 10 years...

  4. I really doubt a Republican-controlled congress enacts any firearms restrictions. The problem with tannerite is that it's bimary comppnents are simple to obtain and widely available. There are plenty of videos on the web detailing how to make your own tannerite. Executive actions trying to do an end run around congress wouldn't suprise me though.

  5. I think it will go the opposite way...

These "lone wolf" or "home grown" attacks only demonstrate that government cannot keep us safe. True assault rifles have been banned nearly everywhere (including here since 1986) yet the bad people have them. Does it make sense to further hold good people down to be victims? Europe is one large gun free zone and it failed with the slightest initiative (the Paris attack was not well-funded). What is the street price of an AK in France's Islamic zones? 1,000EUR? So anyone with $1200 or so bucks is a terrorist thanks to gun control.

Couple that with gun crime stats in the US where these mass shooting events happen in gun free zones. The reality of this violence just doesn't fit the gun-grabber narrative. What really furthers their narrative is when otherwise decent/normal people commit violence/mass shootings. It reaffirms the belief that the gun is the problem/evil. This is why Sandy Hook was their wet dream.

You may have a point about Tannerite, which is pretty useless for a large scale attack without significant volume (think OKC/rental truck volume). But it does look "scary" on the interwebs.

    1. yeah i know. and my fellow gun guys are gonna hate me for this but i don't really care if that goes away. i'm of the opinion that the NFA Trust scheme is an attempt to evade the laws...not a money saving device. just my opinion and it means nothing ... but i won't shed a tear if that construction is smashed.

    2. I want it to so my wife and child (when old enough) can have possession of a suppressor I buy without me being there. Also to pass it on without them having to pay the tax.

  9. I don't think the restrictions will be enacted at the Federal level, but state by state like the NY SAFE Act.

    1. gonna have to come federally. all the states that were gonna pass restrictive gun laws have already done it. everyone else is firmly conservative.

  10. We have this kind of silliness in Canada. AK variants are prohibited, all AR variants are restricted, which means from the home to the range only.

There are rifles that Canadians can own that have an unrestricted status as long as the barrel lengths are 18"5 inches. Sadly though, some "idiot" bureaucrat thought that magazines should only 5 rounds thus most magazines are pinned to five. Like the bad guys would give a shit.

Here are ten popular unrestricted rifles in Canada, many of them excellent weapons. The Norinco M14 is a particular interesting weapon, very decent quality for around $500. The tavor is nice too, if you like bull-pups but very pricey. The XCR is good, again pricey. Mini-14 is well, mini-14. The Czech VZ 58 is really interesting though. It looks very similar to an AK, but very different gun and good build quality. The VZ is striker fired, the breach locks open after last round, and can reload with stripper clip or new mag.

    1. Norinco M14S or M305
    2. Tavor TAR 21
    3. Norinco Type 97
    4. Keltec RFB
    5. Robinson XCR
    6. Ruger Mini -14
    7. Keltec Su-16
    8. CZ 858 or VZ 58
    9. JR Carbine
    10. Famae SG 542

  11. whats the point of gun control if the bad guys can get anything they wanted ?

  12. The gun lobby would probably get a lot further if it actually agreed to compromise once in a while, they lose a huge amount of their support because they refuse to support any gun control regulations, even ones with overwhelming government support. Now if they'd actually work with the government they might stand a decent chance of getting some concessions while helping to prevent crime but instead they insist on trying and failing to hold back everything.

    1. said like a European that is moved by propaganda instead of reality. the reality is that except in a few liberal states, gun rights have actually increased. additionally many feel that if you give on even the smallest thing the gun grabbers will not be satisfied but will instead intensify there efforts. Sandy Hook political debate is telling in that regard. they pushed for an outright ban on firearms. when they couldn't get that they hooked in a moderate Republican and tried to do an nationwide background check and database. so you see the pattern. the left and gun grabbers will accept incremental change in order to achieve the goal of banning firearms.

don't get it twisted. my main desire is for gun guys to stop posting this shit on YouTube. don't broadcast it to the sheeple out there who get scared when the wind blows hard.

    2. On the contrary I believe that most of them hook on to some of the excesses (as demonstrated on You Tube) of what they perceive to be the gun lobby. In a perfect world I agree that cutting down on stupid You Tube videos and not generating as much bad PR might to an extent work but I reckon doing away with unregulated tannerite and things like NFA Trusts which many of these people latch onto might reduce their attention.

I'll admit that I'm a European who isn't exactly big on guns but it's not my country so I'm not picking sides here, just sharing my thoughts.
