The Army seriously needs to talk to France on the VBC 90. At least it's what the US Army wants in a Mobile gun http://www.armyrecognition.com/french_army_france_wheeled_armoured_vehicle_uk/vbc-90_vbc_90_6x6_combat_vehicle_90mm_cannon_technical_data_sheet_specifications_intelligence_description_pictures_video.html
Ive previously argued that if the marines adopt the Patria AKA Havoc, which can mount a bushmaster II or 105mm gun (and NLOS mortar and SPAAG which are needed), that would be a suitable replacement for the Stryker. They probably wont though, because that would actually make perfect sense.
I would say it has to be something along the lines of the proven ERC 90 Sagaie The French is a good example that uses the ERC 90 Sagaie for their Armored cav units and Airborne units of the French Foreign Legion units. http://defensetech.org/2013/01/28/french-rely-on-erc-90-in-mali/
Their is one that France is working on to replace the ERC 90 Sagaie called the The Jaguar EBRC http://www.armyrecognition.com/french_army_france_wheeled_armoured_vehicle_uk/jaguar_ebrc_6x6_reconnaissance_combat_armoured_vehicle_ebmr_scorpion_technical_data_sheet_pictures.html
Your idea makes no logistical sense. The U.S. army is married to the mgs like it or not. Most of the deficiencies identified in Iraq have been resolved. Why transition to a new vehicle with no combat experience? Your idea just makes no sense at all.
Last I heard the deficiencies haven't been resolved at all, but some of the horrible ones might be mitigated with Stryker II. Im not sure how Stryker IIs will be integrated with the MGS or if they will be at all. Some former comrades in arms currently assigned to Stryker units didn't know either.
It is no secret that the Stryker MGS is the worst variant of MGS out there. The Army had no problem adopting it, despite the platform not being combat tested, even with the other MGS systems out there that had a myriad of different combat experiences in the type of environments we would later encounter.
Sol, whats with all the fans up front on starboard? Is that the AC system that was added on later?
ReplyDeleteThat system is to vent the crew and the electronics...its such failed design...

ReplyDeleteWhy not get Italian Centauro's?
ReplyDeleteWhy not, between the VBC 90 & B1 Centauro, I would think either one would work great for the US Army
ReplyDeleteMGS is junk. Army would be so much better off with a VBC 90.

ReplyDeleteThe other Mobile Gun system I see as viable is called the Rooikat and it comes from South Africa Army. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooikat

ReplyDeleteHere's the vid on The Jaguar EBRC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwT92BH60hE
ReplyDeleteWhy do they need the MGS? To face the Farc or the Venezuelans T-72B?

ReplyDeleteThat is very attractive. I love the Jaguar. Im considering coordinating a trip to see one in person. If it is possible.

But...they will keep it no doubt. And we will have to work with it.
