Polish MoD specifies the fact that the proposition regarding the preparation service is targeted at the persons who are aged 18 to 50, and who have not been serving in the Armed Forces earlier. These persons would be volunteers. At the same time, members of the reserve forces may also report themselves for duty. They would be requested to take part in relevant training exercises.Wow.
Reserve soldiers (privates younger than 50 years old and non-commissioned officers and officers – up to 60 years old), who have no mobilisation assignment, will be assigned to a proper unit and will be asked to participate in a training programme, in line with their military speciality. Reserve soldiers who are duly assigned will be sent to their mother-units.
John was kind enough to provide this link where I talked about this before. Many people wrote it off as propaganda because the source for the news was Russia Times. Seems like its real enough.
What should surprise everyone is how wide a net they're casting. The US and EU in general might not be taking the Ukrainian war seriously, but Poland is...dead serious.
They are not MK4 they are merkava mk2 dor dalet or mk2d for short
ReplyDeletethe turret shape indicates Mk4 to me. why are you saying mk2? they have the old style turret and a different hull shape.
ReplyDeleteI assume the side of the turret is what gives you that idea, it was a bolt on armor upgrade for the mk2, I first read about it in "Modern Israeli Tanks and Infantry Carriers 1985-2004" ISBN 1-84176-579-1, a quick google image search for Merkava mk2 dor dalet confirmed it.
ReplyDeletefirst 2 are mk2d's and the 3rd is a close up of the mk4 turret without the trophy APS.
ReplyDeleteIsrael MOD just doubled their orders for Merkava and Namer parts. http://www.jpost.com/Israel-News/Defense-Ministry-orders-more-tanks-will-re-equip-armored-vehicles-with-famed-Trophy-system-392776
ReplyDeleteA bad news for Israel. Saudi Arabia decided to buy Korea's SMART reactor.
ReplyDeleteThe problem for Israel is that this SMART reactor was originally developed to power Korea's nuclear submarines, and is very compact and runs on 20% enriched uranium fuel. This would Saudi Arabia to skip all the headaches Iranians are going through with their 20% enriched uranium program and gain access to 20% enriched uranium reactor technology directly.

The SMART reactors, designed by the Korea Atomic Energy Research
Institute, was developed to target the Middle Eastern countries as it
generates electric power and also desalinates sea water.
Under
the agreement, the two countries are set to conduct a three-year
preliminary study by 2018 to review the feasibility of constructing
SMART reactors in Saudi Arabia.
“The agreement is expected to
open opportunities for South Korean firms to participate in Saudi
Arabia’s nuclear reactor project,” said An Chong-bum, Park’s senior
secretary for economic affairs.
With the agreement, the South
Korean government expects to win $2 billion worth of nuclear reactor
deals in Saudi Arabia and additional orders in the future. If realized,
it will be the world’s first case of small- and medium-sized reactors
being exported to a foreign country, officials said. The world’s largest
producer and exporter of oil plans to build more than 12 18-gigawatt
nuclear power plants by 2040 to prepare for growing domestic demand for
electricity and to secure new energy sources.
Merkava Mk-2
ReplyDeleteSmall Reactors are handier than most reports give credit for.
ReplyDeleteTransporting electricity is harder than most people realise, there are hefty advantages in localised reactors.
That said, Saudi might be aiming its nuclear punch, but its squarely aimed at Iran not Israel
