1st Battalion 6th Marines does riot training....but for what scenario? Photo by Cpl. Chris Garcia

Marines with Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit performed many tactics to maintain control of a simulated riot during a non-lethal weapons course at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Jan. 22, 2016. The Marines participated in the course to ensure mission readiness and to improve their ability to maintain control during a riot.
This has been part of the training for MEU's for quite awhile, but seems to be picking up steam lately.

I've always wondered but never got a decent answer.  Under what scenario do you see US Marines on foreign shores doing riot control?  Reinforcing an embassy?  Really?  If its to that point and host nation can no longer provide security then you're evacuating it.  At a protest against our base overseas?  Even if the host nation loses control it will be a matter of either them rapidly reinforcing their personnel OR arresting a few stragglers that somehow make it on base.

I'm still waiting to get a good explanation of why this is part of the workups.
