Sean Penn's blunder will be a test case for justice in America. Are actors a protected elite?

Joaquín Guzmán Loera, the Mexican drug lord known as El Chapo, started out in business not long after turning 6, selling oranges and soft drinks. By 15, he said in an interview conducted in a jungle clearing by the actor and director Sean Penn for Rolling Stone magazine, he had begun to grow marijuana and poppies because there was no other way for his impoverished family to survive.

Now, unapologetically, he said: “I supply more heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana than anybody else in the world. I have a fleet of submarines, airplanes, trucks and boats.”

Though his fortune, estimated at $1 billion, has come with a trail of blood, he does not consider himself a violent man. “Look, all I do is defend myself, nothing more,” he told Mr. Penn. “But do I start trouble? Never.”

The idea of a "fair" justice system has taken a few hits lately.  Even if you ignore some of the outrageous police shootings, you still have to acknowledge the "affluenza" killer in Texas that killed four people, and only got probation is silly.  The biggest thieves in America, the guys that never use guns only guile....the Wall Street crowd, have never payed for their almost sinking the US economy.

But a bit of equilibrium seems to be coming.  A reckless individual in uniform got 5 years for the display below.



So this will be a test case for justice in America.  Decisions have consequences.  If you choose poorly you could end up dead...or in jail...or both.

Will Penn be prosecuted or are actors a protected elite?  We'll see.
