The Armada Tank.
We've read about how its the new powerhouse on the battlefield and even I've written blog posts about how the West needs to get its armor house together to fight this new threat.
But like a certain Marine Corps General said (paraphrasing and taking extreme liberty)...relax...US Army Tankers got this! Check this out via Deagel.com
The M829E4 is a fifth generation 120mm Advanced Kinetic Energy (AKE) tactical tank round developed for the US Army's M1A2 SEP main battle tanks. This 120mm kinetic energy cartridge has been designed to take heavy armored tanks protected with advanced, explosive reactive armor at extended ranges as well as in Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT), mountain, and nontraditional battlefields. The new round will make possible to engage a target with fewer rounds. In July 2011, the US Army awarded a $77 million three-year contract to ATK for the development and qualification of the M829E4 round. Full rate production is planned for 2014.Notice I said Army Tankers because despite me searching all over the internet I couldn't find if this new anti-tank round has been certified for use on the Marine Corps M1A1's.
If it isn't (any Marine Tankers out there know?) then we're looking at a future where attaching US Army Tank Battalions to Marine Units is a necessity before major operations. Maybe my idea of joint operations between Marine Expeditionary Units and Paratroopers in the Pacific should be replaced with getting the US Army to add a Tank Battalion to Korea or Australia as a Major Operation Contingency Force.
