The above vid shows some of the fighting in Syria but what caught my attention is the MI-28N.
The culture shock that will come when enemy attack helicopters are hunting our forces is going to dramatic. US Ground Forces, both Army and Marines haven't trained to fight without air superiority since the late 70's/early 80's.
They still aren't.
An entire culture of non-dependence on air power has faded away with the fallacy that the US will maintain air superiority as a birth right having replaced it.
Take a look at that MI-28N out and about hunting for targets again.
We're not ready. US Army Air Defense Artillery and Marine Air isn't ready. If we're faced with the nightmare scenario of having to deploy ground forces before air superiority is achieved then it will be a blood bath from hell....oh and before you say it'll never happen just remember this. Sometimes you don't get to choose the time and place of the fight. Sometimes the fight finds you.
