F-0597 Convair Charger Model 48 (repeat)...the plane the USMC needs today!
</ifram</p> <p> <br></p> <p> Following a discussion on the MV-22 and the "jack of all trades" issue, I found (again) the above vid.  Why would you stick rockets on your troop carrier especially if you're deploying them at extended distances from fire support?</p> <p> <br></p> <p> The answer is you don't.  You're making ground commanders choose between building up combat power, delivering supplies, evacuating the wounded and getting a little extra fire support.</p> <p> <br></p> <p> And that's the problem.</p> <p> <br></p> <p> The USMC is designing a force that just doesn't make sense.  The AH-1Z/UH-1Y just don't have the range or speed to keep up with the MV-22 and yet we're talking about deploying infantry at a greater distance than they can reach.  What does that mean?  It means you're going to have a Company Landing Team depending on 6 F-35's to provide support.  It means that we're building future Ft. Apache's on purpose.</p> <p> <br></p> <p> It means that someone's son or daughter will be cursing us in the future.</p> <p> <br></p> <p> We need a new Convair Charger type airplane that can escort our MV-22's and remain on station to provide needed fire support to the infantry.  Its the only thing that makes sense with the type of Marine Corps that we're building.</p> <p> <br></p> <p> Sidenote:  Understand that this is valid only if we continue with the COIN/generational war thing that is bleeding us dry.  Against a peer opponent these concepts are worthless.</p>
