Anthony Kiritsis holds a sawed-off shotgun to the head of Meridien Mortgage President Richard Hall in 1977, while ranting about why it was Hall's fault that Kiritsis was behind on his loan payments. Kiritsis had wired the shotgun's barrel to Hall's neck and the trigger to his own hand to deter police from killing him. This photo, taken after a 63-hour standoff, won the 1978 Pulitzer Prize.
