MBTs versus Medium Tanks (THREAD)— Nicholas Drummond (@nicholadrummond) August 14, 2018
During operation Desert Storm the US Army’s M1 Abrams performed extremely well thanks to their sensors which were able acquire Iraqi T-72 targets before the latter could acquire them. Enemy MBTs were mostly destroyed before they could respond. pic.twitter.com/qxYgzl6ZWW
Equally important are the sensors fitted to NATO MBTs. These need to maximise speed of engagement and the range at which enemy targets can be hit. Computer AI analysis of sensor data can facilitate this. pic.twitter.com/6vmNg3OI85— Nicholas Drummond (@nicholadrummond) August 14, 2018
If NATO MBTs can see first, decide first and then act first, they have a decisive advantage. Whoever hits first wins regardless of protection. If this view is right - and it may not be - then maybe wheeled medium tanks with less armour may be justifiable. END pic.twitter.com/6jc0Dx3oBu— Nicholas Drummond (@nicholadrummond) August 14, 2018
What do you guys think? Valid or is he missing a piece of the puzzle?
