MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 07th January, 2019) The Russian Ground Forces will receive more than 450 armored vehicles, including T-72B3M and T-90M tanks, in 2019, the Russian Defense Ministry said Monday in a statement.Russian vehicle procurement confuses the hell outta me. What is the difference between the T-72B3M and the T-90...and why are they buying both models instead of necking down to one.
"In 2019, more than 450 pieces of armored vehicles will enter service in the divisions of the Russian Ground Forces.
As part of the implementation of the state defense order, the enterprises of the defense industry complex will supply the Russian Defense Ministry with modern types of armored vehicles that have successfully proven themselves in operation in various climatic zones," the statement reads.
The ministry noted that T-72B3M and T-90M tanks, BTR-82A and BTR-82AM armored personnel carriers as well as BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles will enter service, among others.
The BTR-82A and BTR-82AM? Same question. Additionally they have other wheeled IFV/APC available of a newer gen. Why not buy them...or push their development forward and get them to the troops.
The BMP-3 seems damn near immortal. They're continuing to upgrade that beast and its used by both regular forces, paratroopers and Marines. I get that one.
So what gives tribe members? Why the puzzling purchases?
