#OTD in 1991, flight deck crewman John Bridges was sucked into the intake of an A-6E aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt. Incredibly, he survived because he became wedged in the engine. The flames were caused by his equipment getting pulled through the jet. pic.twitter.com/FhnugoSbNC— U.S. Naval Institute (@NavalInstitute) February 20, 2020
I'm glad this bubba survived. Getting sucked into a jet intake can't be fun. But have you noticed something? I'm not hearing of this happening too much lately. NAVAIR must have been working to clean things up on the flight deck to keep this from happening.
I'd love to see a history of how this has played out since the start of WW2. How many people have been struck by blades or sucked into intakes?
