The secret sauce of military recruiting? A weak economy?

Some in the Twitterverse are claiming that the rise in trainees is because of a weak economy.  I don't know. Military age people are still aware of the potential dangers so I have more than a few doubts that its ONLY that.  It's still impressive whatever the cause.
