Does anyone have a "reading" on why the Russian Army is flying the Soviet Flag?

 

I've noticed in the past day or so more instances of Russian forces displaying the flag of the former Soviet Union.

This is, I gotta say, a very weird vibe. Especially if your cover story is that this isn't about the Cold War in any way.

I've been getting people's take on stuff I don't care about. This I'm curious about and no one has a take on it. Has anyone seen an expert opinion of why this is a thing for them now?
